Oh no! Well, if someone has to burn on the ceiling to send them off and have their adventures begin, and if their adventures here are about running from the MoL (which can really rock) - perhaps after a long period in which they try to stay under the radar (lots of stealthy goodness, of living intimately with people who could be really dangerous to you) the Yellow-Eyed Demon would try to burn down the bunker, Abaddon style? And Sam used his powers and they had to run? Or, of course, perhaps without the normalcy of his life to distract him, and with the MoL knowledge available, Sam learned to use his powers himself, no need for a fire, but ended up causing it himself/with Dean, and then having to run ?
I know people always kill off John in such stories (on the ceiling...?) but I'd like him to be a player, a force, in a story like that, powerful and with his own agenda like always, unclear whether he'd actually kill Sam or save him (never got to see what would have happened).
Had they run away earlier, I'd have also liked to see how John would have turned out without Dean to lean on, without knowing he had two sons supposedly there to follow in his footsteps.
Another factor that's rarely addressed is that Sam went with john's plan, to kill Sam off, in canon. He was terrified enough, felt guilty enough, probably also just automatically obeyed John on a deeper level. Would it go differently in such a universe?
What if Sam tried to stoop the YED with his powers, with John and the MOL in the mix, and *Sam* were the one on the ceiling? And John (feeling guilty?) sold his soul to bring him back? And then, what if John were the righteous man, brought back by Cas and all of that? How would Dean deal with all of that? What would it mean for Sam and john's relationship, and the world as we know it? Would john be tempted by the offer made to Adam - to bring Mary back? I'd say no, but it worked when it was Dean, though the price was not the world, then. How would Dean feel about all of that? Would there be John/Cas? (D/s Cas/John? :-O)
