I am so far behind fannishly I now have no hope until the end of the semester. Also, I got a student telling me he expected to hate my class but didn't, which is sort of the equivalent of the feedback that says "I usually hate your kink, but I liked this story!" Thanks, I guess?

Some guy once told me something like "I never date girls like you. I usually go for thin". And he was definitely into me, and thought it was a lovely compliment. But I do get why people say things like that (when it's about art/lectures/food, not my body). I sometimes want to say "Your story was so good that even though, for unrelated reasons, I'm inclined to dislike it, I really love it". I suppose for some people it's also a way of dealing with "OMG, am I the kind of person who would like *this*?!"
But then, even though I know the things I create usually have nothing to do with people disliking the genre or ship or kink, I'm protective of some of them, and I just don't want to hear from more people who don't like them. And when it's (more obviously) political, when people say things like "trans folk make me uncomfortable, but-", I just wanna scream.
