I'd been wanting Castiel/Dean fic, but I hadn't expected something so bleak and heartbreaking.
If hell is the absence of hope, Dean is still there, at least in this story. So many lines in this really gutted me, especially Dean knew better. Hope hadn’t been misfiled. Hope was how they got you to take the elevator down. and Gone, the way he wanted to be gone, the way the Colt would have made him gone. He wondered where the gun was now. .
And the metaphor about his life being all blade and no handle. DAMN.
I'm pretty sure your Castiel/Dean needs will soon be very well supplied, from happy to sad. And that's exactly what I wanted to say with the story, so I'm glad it worked: Dean is in Hell, only maybe a deeper level; Hell is here.
I've seen that; I was just wondering about the Hebrew meaning of the consonants, the way that Samuel, Raphael, Gabriel etc. have standard attributed meanings. "-el" is usually "of God," so Castiel should be "something of God."
Poor Dean, looking at the consequence of a life consorting with and being used by supernatural beings of ever-increasing power, the loss of your own humanity. This is the first season four fic I've read, and this augurs very well indeed for my fanfic needs. Thanks!
