Today, everything that was sitting on the workbench that was supposed to go was taken to Goodwill. Three boxes and three bags of stuff, plus a few loose objects, all of which filled up the back seat of my car. The only thing that did not go was the bed and frame; someone on the Caerthe list has indicated an interest in it, and I'm hoping she'll contact me again so we can make arrangements for her to pick it up this weekend. So I'll count the effort as a success right now.
In addition, I got a few more bits rearranged in the garage, so that there is a little more floorspace. This was also part of the long term plan, so this is a good step, too.
I also spent part of my morning installing Mcafee on my machine. It took two hours and did a number on my machine. As a result, as I type, I am now uninstalling it because having the program on my very old computer (as in almost 10 years old!) was making it impossible to work on anything at all. Calling up my internet access took ten minutes and trying to type anything brought back memories of word processing on Spot at college on Thursday nights. All the computer science major's programs were due on Friday morning and they built and tested them on Spot the mainframe. I could type for five minutes straight and not see a single word on the screen. Not an acceptable state of affairs on my personal computer.
Once I have access to more virtual memory, I'll reinstall the software. But until then, I will simply continue to be as careful as possible with where I go and what I look at on-line, because otherwise I'll certainly be safe and protected because I won't be able to turn the machine on.
Last but not least, I hung up most of the clothes that I had lying around on various surfaces. I found two chairs in the process, as well as a number of items that need to be mended so they can be hung up too.
All in all, I feel like I've made at least some progress in restoring order to my little corner of the universe.
