...I need a "yay food!" icon, since I seem to post recipes more than anything else. Just sayin'.
Made this pie for Cannibal Demon Night last weekend. It...does not actually contain any demons. But it was well received anyway!
First step, pie crust.
Generally, I just buy a 9" graham cracker crust and use that, and you can use probably whatever sweet-filling-appropriate pie shell you have around. But the recipe I got from my mum includes a cookie crust pie shell, which instructions I am including here in case you feel more ambitious than I did. You can still receive an S rank for the pie mission without baking your own crust.
Cookie crust:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg yolk
1/4 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 400.
Mix flour & sugar in a bowl, cut in the butter (you can do this with knives if you lack a pastry blender).
Add egg yolk & vanilla, mix by hand until blended, then moosh into a 9" pie pan. This part will be sticky.
Poke with a fork a few times to minimize bubbling, & bake for ten minutes, until light golden brown.
Allow to cool before filling.
Pie filling:
1 cup sugar
2 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate
5 Tbs. cornstarch
2 1/2 cups milk
3 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla
Cut up or coarse-grate the baking chocolate. Mix with the sugar & cornstarch in a medium saucepan (2 quart?).
Add milk, cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until boiling. This probably takes about 10 minutes.
When it starts to boil, it will also immediately start to thicken. Cook for a minute, then remove from heat.
Spoon a little of the chocolate stuff into a cup with the egg yolks and mix together. Then add that back to the pot, and return the pot to the heat.
Boil and stir for another minute.
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla. You should have something very much like pudding by now.
Pour this into your pie shell, and refrigerate until cool.
Top with whipped cream -- one cup heavy cream with 2 Tbs sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla should give you just about the perfect amount. Spread whipped cream over pie.
Eat for dessert, after you have decimated the ranks of your enemies. Gloat.
