I try not to play the privilege one-upsmanship in which some take such pleasure. I have financial and educational capital, and I'm good at what I do. In some situations, my being a woman is a disadvantage, and I won't pretend it's never resulted in dangerous situations that I was lucky to escape. I have been luckier than many women, especially those of my class background. These days I have class privilege, with the occasional reminder that all of it is meaningless in a dark alley or a quiet room where someone bigger than you wants to push his advantage. But I never have to put up with the daily indignities of being Black in the US of which not even wealth and fame free you.
