Yesterday I went to a stranger’s wedding as a friend’s +1. It was the most traditional wedding I’d been to in a long time (full catholic wedding mass, painful MC etc). There were also a bunch of differences from US weddings, and I don’t know whether that was Australian or idiosyncratic.
First, there was a 3 hour gap between the wedding and the reception (booooring).
It was a Sunday, and I understand that people would need to get home at a reasonable time rather than making a big night of it. The reception started with drinks at 430, but then the order got strange. We were chivvied into the dining room around 515, to be seated, then the MC announced the wedding party, and the happy couple did a promenade around the room while everyone clapped. Then they went directly to the cake cutting and photo op, but no cake was served. Entrees came out and were enjoyed, then they dimmed the main lights, turned on disco lights, and played 3-4 truly awful songs (starting with Lady in Red o.O). Lights came back on, and mains were served. After mains came speeches and more dancing. At that point we slipped out, with dessert yet to come.
Is this normal around here?
