Cooking up a storm

Aug 18, 2012 19:11

This afternoon, I browsed cookbooks for a while, popped out to the grocery store for some supplies, and returned to cook: a big batch of bolognese sauce, a cabbage salad for tonight's potluck, a lentil salad for tomorrow's potluck, and a crockpot full of braised basque chicken.

This is a pleasure and victory both in itself, and for the things it implies: I have a home, a predictable enough life to make food in advance, and friends with which to share it. After a couple months on the go, that's a welcome change.

Will was very sick for much of the week, and it making a slow recovery that has required my presence and assistance more than is ideal. But that notwithstanding, our apartment is already feeling much homier than the last one, and we're looking forward to our housewarming next week. On top of that (and in spite of the disruption from Will's illness), my job is picking up momentum in a positive way, and I'm already sketching out a working paper that will be my first major output. So everything's coming up roses, more or less. Thanks, Melbourne.
