My ex managed to pick a dentist that was by a miracle the most inconvienent for me, her and her new husband. Not sure if that was by design, luck or sheer stupidity ( Read more... )

Then they aren't very good at what they do...and probably shouldn't be working with him or any other child that has dental issues...

My little one hates the dentist and needles...he takes the novacaine shots like they are nothing...doesn't even notice because he is occupied with his tunes now...they can't give him gas anymore because it made him sick once...(apparently it reacts badly with a milk breakfast and we found this out the hard way)...they have aborted Xrays when he was uncooperative and done them the next visit...they have never tried to force him or hold him down...just changed their plans on what to do...I can't think of an instance where one would need to hold a child down at the dentist office...it should never come to that...they should offer to make another apt at a future date or find some alternative...

Our Orthodontist has video games for the kids to play while getting a check-up....my kids actually look forward to those visits now...they work with kids from 7 or so on up...and they do it well...

Sorry, but the way the dentist and your ex handled it was wrong on so many levels...I would look into a new dentist who actually knows how to deal with those who have fears...even if it is a sedation kind of thing...(you might want to look and see if there are any other complaints about that dentist as well)...

The way your ex used your son borders on abusive behavior...she doesn't seem like much of a parent if she can't be in there with him...especially if she doesn't question why there are issues...and admits what she admitted to you...

Maybe it is just me...I would be in there with my kids no matter how much pain it caused me...My kid is screaming, I see what is wrong, not run away...even if there are people I trust with him...I was with my little one when he got a spinal tap...I have been there whenever I could possibly be...that is part of my job...

Sorry, it just bothers me...

I agree. You be there with your kid. No matter what. I got out to my car and was shaking for a good 20 minutes. But, I never let him see it.

I was talking to Mari this morning, and said she reminds me of that scene in The Incredibles where Mr. Incredible and Frozone are sitting in the car and Frozone is recounting his experience with one villian. And he says "and one more shot from the death ray and I was a goner. And then, what does he start doing?" And they both say "He monologues!" She does it. The evil villian who monologues. And she's using the kids as a death ray.
