Summary: The road washed out.

A full moon rose over Four Corners casting light on the streets as the stage coach pulled in. The horses looked exhausted as Scott Tower pulled to a stop. He sighed and then spoke, “The road’s washed out a few miles past Bitter Creek so we had a long detour. Fortunately, we have only one passenger who fell asleep when it got dark.”

Ezra looked worried. “I’ve been waiting for Mother since you were supposed to arrive before dark.” He stepped up to the door and opened it, “Wake up Mother. You’re in Four Corners.”

Maude stretched, “I was having the most interesting dream about the time we were in New Orleans before the War.” She took Ezra’s hand and stepped down. “I’m exhausted.”

“Let me take you to the hotel where you can sleep in a real bed.” He turned to Lute, “Please bring her bags to the Standish Hotel and have them delivered to the top floor suite.”

Later

Maude was sound asleep while Leila Bird quietly unpacked and cleaned her clothing. She slipped out and down to the lobby where Erza waited. “Thank you Miss Bird. Please check on her around noon and then have a bath drawn when she gets up.”

“Of course, Mister Standish.”
