Angelino Heights was an oasis from Los Angeles’ hustle and bustle. Inside one of the restored Victorians, a couple had just finished dinner. They seemed ordinary but like a lot of millionaires, they didn’t look or act the part. Simple pleasures were enough for them.
Sophie smiled, “That was delicious Nate. I forgot that you liked to cook. We’ll have to take turns.”
“Welcome, princess. I was at the market and saw the eggplant so I decided to make ratatouille. Next time, I think I’ll go lighter on the herbs.”
“It reminded me of our honeymoon in France. Wandering through the farmers’ markets was fun.” She smiled, “And then coming back to cook whatever we picked up.”
“Well, I know that Echo Park has a weekly farmers’ market so we can pretend we’re in France.”
“That sounds like fun. I’ll clear the table and wash the dishes since you cooked.”
They were sitting on the balcony enjoying the cool evening. A full moon cast a soft glow. On the table was dessert, madeleines and two glasses of port. “So honey what do you want to do tomorrow?”
Sophie thought for a moment and then answered, “A day at the Huntington Gardens including lunch. The Chinese garden has just reopened and the pictures look lovely.”
“Then the Huntington it is. Finish your wine and madeleines then I’ll take everything downstairs and meet you in bed.”
“Sounds delightful. Don’t take too long.”
