Times are a changing

Today I told my supervisor that I was working on doing something else with my career. It was a big step, and she was very supportive and helpful.
I have come to a point where I see that my profession and our society are headed in the wrong direction. We have placed our priorities on private acquisition and corporate wealth. The entities that live off of the people do not feel any sense of responsibility to the people.

As government funding for my profession dries up agencies a having to rely more and more on specific grants and corporate funding.
This means that the people in charge of what we do are not part of social services, but administrators and number crunchers who care more about the bottom line than actual human suffering.

Though I agree that someone has to worry about the bottom line I also know that we here in America have absolutely no real lack of funds and resources to give. Yet no one wants to give them without a price.

Because of this our administrators expect us to see more and more clients in less and less time. They have been trying to push "brief therapy" models on us as if that will change our waiting lists. These quantitative approaches to managing human lives are in direct conflict with actual helping.

This profession is a spiritual calling to me. I have given up many things to help others, and I do not like being told how to do my job incorrectly by those unable or unwilling to have the same dedication to our society, and to our children.

It is clear to me that our current paradigm lacks the vision and the humanity to simply do what is right. I am going to have to make my own way and I am going to have to ensure that the right thing gets done for our kids.

As a final note, I am also frustrated with a nation that makes constant mouth noises about God, and Faith and Jesus, but cannot give funding to non-profit. Who are these people?
