My experience at TBR

I had a lot of time to think on the drive home. Here's a few notes I scribbled yesterday as I waited to meet my parents for dinner...

1) Yeah, I'm still as meek a person as I was in school. Each game there was at least one thing I considered doing but lost the moment because I didn't want to interrupt.

2) In every game, I believe I neglected to use my character's stated strength / ability. Apologies to any GMs who might have had plans for that.

3) OMG!! The GM is talking to me... looking right at me!!! AAAIIIIEEEEEE! And then I freeze, losing all ability to think or speak. Thank you to the GMs who mostly let me come along for the ride.

4) I learned that the intrigue of the story doesn't have to relate to the description of the game, and I'm too single-minded. I have to decide whether to learn to adapt, or design characters that will be persistent and annoying.

5) I'm not nearly as educated as I should be in movies, TV, science fiction, fantasy... I won't admit to how many castings or scenarios went over my head.

Game / Character summary -
  • Ship of Chaos - Caron Lake, corporate drone - I put the least preparation into her and thought she was least successful. Not sure I'll keep her. Still, it was my introduction to face-to-face gaming, and I had a good time. 'Pilot' was sweet, even though I didn't trust the crustacean.

  • An Amberite's Price - Violet, daughter of Fiona - She was described as the socially inept, weird cousin that you hoped to avoid at family dinners. I think I want to keep her and develop further. I need to get the Amber manuals and learn a bit about sorcery and what's available to her. The game itself was neat. (And how does *that* letter taste?) I would be willing to journey into Chaos again.

  • A Will to Win - Lady Strella Keath - She was a large, smothering mother. Her son was 19 and a newly-made knight, but he was still her baby. I want to do more work on this one, including putting points into a yappy dog that she (no... her maid) carries around in a handbasket. In this game, we learned that there was a critical threshold of Pimms.  A specific amount (3 glasses, I believe) enhanced your memory.  Over that amount, and things rolled downhill.  We all lost it when the dungeon crawl began, with the youngster putting anything not nailed down into a large sack.

  • Hold the Front Page! - Mr. Guppy, city boy and reporter - Despite everyone's best efforts, he survives to report another day.  Apparently country folk get offended when you speak slowly to them.  He is thankful that Amy pushed him onto that horse, though if she knew about his infamous article in Aquila Awake, she would have left him behind.  Whenever I have the chance to rub two thoughts together, I may have him submit a story, probably a travel and tourism article for Lady Bella. (Not that he wants to leave the city ever again...)

I do want to go again, and I think my parents might be willing to take both kids for a long weekend.  For now, I'm getting some sleep!
