Ebony was one of those early birds just outside the door waiting, a bit anxiously in her case, for the throne room to open. It had been a good long while since she had tortured or killed anybody just for fun. (That brief recent period she'd been brainwashed didn't really count in her mind.) But Ebony knew she was far better suited to that than some stupid frustrating riddle or maze. And it was always important to make sure other people knew what she could contribute, or she was liable to find herself kicked out of the tribe.

Not that Riverfell had tribes-- Pandora had made that much clear. But still, Ebony suspected the give and take of services, skills, and rewards operated much the same way.

Which was why at one o'clock sharp, she strode on into the opening throne room doors, offering Damion Cohen, the leader of Riverfell, a polite nod of recognition. In fact, her head tipped so low, her nod might easily have been mistaken for a full on bow of acknowledgment to his leadership and power were it not for the arrogant smirk spread across her face.

Sylar sidled casually into the the throne room. He was pretty sure he should be in this kind of a meeting. Killing for the sake of killing? That had him written all over it. Hands stuffed into his pockets like it was no big deal, he strode forward, nodding to the girl who was already there and smirking slightly at her actions.

Approaching Damion and Nenael, he gave them both a curt nod.

Tory swaggered into the castle, giggling like the madman he was. His eyes darted around, taking in the sights, and he licked his lips appreciatively, his eyes falling on Nenael and Sylar respectively as he giggled, and offered each of them a small wave.

Killing for the sake of killing? Pain? He was totally interested. He wondered if they wanted him to cause it, or if they were going to cause it for him. He clapped his hands together, excited, still giggling.

He felt sort of like slipping into a corner and observing, pretending he wasn't there, but part of him acknowledged that that was ridiculous. So instead, he opted to just... hover, twirling a black feather between his hands thoughtfully.

He was running out - he kept losing them. He should probably go look up Gabrielle at some point, see if she needed more...

Damion regarded the people filing in, inclining his head to each of those who acknowledged him.

Once he had a fair number of them assembled - and he was impressed by the number who'd struck out for this early meeting, he rose from his chair, moving among them.

"Good afternoon, and thank you all for coming."

He regarded the giggler for a moment before his eyes slipped to Sylar, then to Fenrir, then Ebony. "I doubt much I will need all of you - we are only allotted four participants in this event."

His hands moved behind his back, a smile on his lips. "The next contest is a maze of sorts. A riddle maze. Now ... you lot weren't called here because of your talent at riddles - though if you happen to have some, all the better. No, what I require of you is a simple seek and destroy mission. There will be four residents of DauphinMare in the maze as well. I am asking you to track them down, and do a bit of damage. Kill them, if you get the chance, but whatever you can manage is acceptable."

He turned to face them, smiling. "Does this interest any of you?"

"Keenly," he supplied, nonchalant.

He may or may not have been amusing himself with Damion's slightly - to his mind - pompous nature. He kept his expression dead serious, though, so it was impossible to tell.

Really, though, he liked their new figurehead's style. A seek and destroy mission sounded a lot better than what had been going on with the last one.

Tory's eyes lit up. It was like someone had given him a free pass. He had to resist the urge to jump up and down giggling.

Well. He couldn't stop the giggling. That came out of its own accord.

"I'm very good at it," he assured Damion, hoping that he got picked to go in. He was almost jumping from foot to foot in excitement.

Nenael clenched his jaw, and his wings quivered with the tension in his back. He disliked the idea of Sylar going into the maze. Confined, with the DauphinMarians who were on guard for people from Riverfell.

But he wouldn't stop him.

Looking away, the angel simply listened to the others, and to the voices in the hall awaiting the next meeting.

Damion nodded to Sylar, and to Tory, though near-black eyes drifted over the others. A dismissive hand was waved to all but Sylar and Tory, and he beckoned them over toward the throne like seat in the center of the room.

Assuming they followed, he smiled to them.

"I will not pretend this is going to be easy, or without danger. The maze will likely have its own hazards in addition to the players from the other side. You may have to answer a question or two inside, or be set to wandering in circles ... still agreeable?"

He doubted they would have changed their minds, but ... well, he'd ask all the same.

"I think I can handle it," he assured Damion after he'd finished, "If you want me to get rid of some of the people in that maze, I have no problems with it. Danger or no danger."

His gaze did glance to Nenael, and he wondered how much he was going to have to atone for after the meeting; his angel didn't look pleased.

He flipped out Carol, his blade, twirling her in his fingers lightly as he smiled.

"I like pain," he said as he giggled, by way of explanation. He felt it was a good one. It explained that if he got hurt, he wouldn't care because he liked it. It also explained that he would very much enjoy causing it.

But he frowned a bit. He wasn't terribly good at... well, not getting lost. "Maze?" he asked.

Though he supposed, push come to shove, he'd manage.

Damion smiled almost indulgently to Tory. "A riddle maze," he repeated. Or clarified; he wasn't exactly sure which.

His eyes slipped to Sylar, but no worries there. The worst he'd have to put up with would be the angel's agitation while Sylar was gone.

"The pair of you will be the hunters then. I am not overly concerned about the pair of you reaching the center. In fact, I'd prefer you didn't. While I do not know what the maze looks like, we have been told there are eight entry points, and only four paths to the center - which means some of the paths intersect. I anticipate a high likelihood of you encountering one of them."

His near black eyes roved between them. "Do you have any questions?"

"Don't head for the center, take them down as I see them," he murmured, "No, I think I've got it."

He had it. Of course, there'd be hazards, but he didn't think that would be a problem, not really. Sylar had yet to come across something he absolutely couldn't overcome.

Tory beamed - he didn't have to reach the center. He just had to look for people to play with. That was fun. He clapped his hands together in excitement.

"Should wait by an entrance then?" he asked curiously. "To the center, not the exit. Or should run away fast?"

He wasn't stupid enough to think that if he waited by the entrance to the maze that someone would come to him, wanting to be tortured. But if he wasn't allowed into the center, should he run the other way if he saw the entrance to it coming up? Would he be able to get around it? Or should he hover in front of it and wait for a DauphinMarion to show up?

Damion nodded to Sylar, and took a minute to try to understand Tory - and to think about a response.

"Perhaps not wait. There is no promise that the path you're on will be shared by someone from the other side. Should you come across the entrance to the center, turn around and find a different path than the one you took to get there."

Sylar nodded, and he glanced to Tory. Tory who had wanted to play with his angel. Who was in possession of one of Gabrielle's feathers. The last bit pleased him, but the idea still stuck. He tried not to think of that, because if he thought of that, his temper was going to rise. He'd lost his temper in the castle once, and he wasn't of a mind to do that again.

He remained silent for the time being. It seemed simple enough. Go out, have fun, don't forget to write.

"'kay," Tory said brightly, positively glowing with excitement. "Can we go now?" he asked eagerly. "Into the maze, can we go? Can we play now?"

Part of him knew that he was going to have to wait, but he was really very excited about this.

Damion chuckled softly. "Tomorrow," he reminded Tory. He was pleased by the enthusiasm though, and he looked forward to seeing what he could do in the maze.

Near black eyes shifted to Sylar, but as he'd asked nothing else, he reasoned that he was done with the question and answer portion.

So he settled his attention on Tory, to see if there was a followup.
