first voyage

[ The last thing Komachi remembers before waking up in unfamiliar surroundings is dozing off in the grass beside the riverside, her boat moored haphazardly nearby. Trying to go back to sleep, and therefore away from this place, did not work. Wandering all over this strange new house didn't work. She is now beginning to get slightly worried ( Read more... )

[Her hand holding the phone clenched tighter and when she spoke, her voice was level.]Komachi, listen to me. You're in a town called Mayfield, which is not going to disappear anytime soon because somehow, including you and myself, as well as some from Gensokyo and other worlds have been trapped here. The culprits involved or responsible for this mess are most likely to be the Mayor, Grady, the police officer, and the Milkman. There may also be a few others who are working behind the scenes ( ... )

[ Komachi never thought she would be as pleased, and at the same time, as saddened, to hear her boss' voice. For once she does not even try to interrupt. She is silent for a while. ]

They got her too, huh... But, h-how?

These people, why are they doing this? They've even managed to silence death. I can't allow this to happen...but still, I can't do anything.

And, uh. Thank you for the explanation, by the way. It was helpful, seriously.

[A mutual feeling.]

I'm not sure how they are able to do any of this, and even the exact reason 'why' is not known to anyone. It is assumed that they are doing this for either their own enjoyment or as some sort of experiment.

I thought the same when I came here. However, from talking to someone I have recently met with, I learned that may not be true. I would rather talk to you about it in person. Have you learned where exactly you live in the town as of yet?

...Of course.

An experiment with life and death. I'm kinda - no. It's unforgivable.

From what I've seen so far, it looks like I'm 'living' at 1129 Taylor Road, or something like that.

...I honestly do mean it, though.

Yes...something like this is incorrigible. They will not be allowed to get away with what they have done.

And I, at 5721 Cunningham Lane.

...I know.

[And with that, she'll be hanging up to come over to the door at the house. She knocks on the door.]

They won't. They shouldn't underestimate the people they've trapped.

[ Soon after, Komachi hears the knock, and hesitantly opens the door of her identical house to make sure it really is Shikieiki. Seeing it is, she, relieved but still somewhat nervous, lets her in. ]

[It is still surreal for her, to actually see that Komachi is here of all places; something she never wanted. A sigh almost escapes her.]

First, you may want to sit down. As it may be a while.

[She's probably going to sit down herself in a chair nearby and wait for her to do the same.]

...I met a woman by the name of Olivier Armstrong. With her assistance I have learned that there would be times when one can gain important information about this town. Such as during an incident when Westport appeared to not only be seen but also accessed. Normally, you cannot go outside of the town without being sent back in, and there are not any other towns that may be viewed from inside Mayfield. In this town, there were clues, like those in the form of notes, hinting about the true nature of Mayfield, and what may have caused everything to be like it is.

[In between these lovely brackets would be the information detailing the important things from the Westport event. Which actually would be a lot. Including dropping the name of an individual ( ... )

[ She sits in a chair opposite, and is as patient as she can muster as she listens to Shikieiki. ]

Thank you.

Wow, uh...that's a lot to take in. But I think I have a better grasp of what's going on now. At least it's not like, hey, there's no hope at all. We can't sit around and wallow in misery. That's never the answer.

This isn't some closed-off dimension. There's bound to be a barrier, sure, but we just need to find out how to break it, right?

A-anyway. [ paaause ] ...Would you like some tea?

You're welcome.

[She nods.]

That is one thing we need to do. On the hand, as far as I know, I don't believe anyone has even tried to break the barrier. I'm certain it would be tough to break, although it is obvious over that event it was weakened significantly.

A cup of tea would be nice right about now. Thank you.

I'd suppose it'd be easier to try and break if you had powers and stuff back. But then, you'd probably get brainwashed, huh...I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone. People need to make their own decisions. I suppose we're getting there slowly, though.

[ she dashes out to quickly make two cups of steaming tea - they're not perfect, but they'll do - and places them down on a nearby table. ]
