I see what you mean, and it makes sense. But I guess I see someone taking that kind of a 'safeguard' (only one person having the right to terminate a relationship) as insulting. I'm not stupid and I don't need someone to second guess a decision like that for me. Because to me, breaking up is not really a compromise (although it can be, of course).
On a similar note, some groups in this country are trying to lobby to get divorce laws back to the state in which one couldn't get divorced unless their partner agreed! This defeats the purpose of breaking up, which is to free yourself from obligation to another person. To me, breaking up exists outside the realms of power exchange, because it seeks to end any sort of 'exchange' at all. Therefore it negates itself. One should never be mandated to remain with another person. Of course, the persuasive person can keep a wishy washy partner mulling over the issue for months and have informal control over their decisions. This, as we all know, has been done since the beginning of time. But outright enforcement of such a personal decision seems - vulgar. and a total negation of free will even for a 'slave'.
