happy mother's day indeed!

Today has been lovely. It is one of those great days when it is sunny and breezy. I got up this morning and went to the farmer's market and got some good fresh produce. The fish monger didn't smell too fishy for once, so I splurged and got some fresh halibut. Got various fresh herbs-- inclluding some lovely dill for the fish-- as well as some lovely asparagus that is still so new that it there is no wood to trim from the ends. Quite a score this late in the season.
There were cherries, but I passed on those because it seems too early to expect cherries to be very good.  I did however, get a really good deal on some organic strawberries (3 pints for $5!). so now I am reposing on my couch quite contentedly with a bellyful of strawberries and multi-grain waffles. The waffles were made by The Boy, as  they both insist that I not lift a finger today. The Girl sliced the strawberries and-- on my suggestion-- stirred in a splash of orange juice. A lovely breakfast. The only thing that could have made it better would have been perhaps some cointreau for the strawberries.... and maybe a bellini or two. Still, The Kids most definitely did their level best and for that I am truly thankful.
So now after a lovely and uneventful morning, I am watching "Banned From The Bible II" on the History Channel. Have I ever mentioned how much I love biblical history, especially when it involves non-canonical texts? I am trying to get The Kids to pay attention but they have never taken an interest in the bible. I guess I will just have to settle for the fact that they are at least letting me enjoy the doc in peace.
So... what's something you like that one wouldn't necessarily guess?

good things, food, mother's day
