This weekend I am thankful for lj, without which I would most certainly have had a bereft weekend. Who'd have guessed that the internet could be such a vehicle for bringing people together? We had a lovely time at epilady's on Thursday. some highlights included a very titillating (and drunken) dance by M in the living room to "Ice, Ice Baby". Now, as far as hated songs go, that one is high on my list. After Thursday, however, it will always occupy a warm corner of my heart. The other most fun part was when M decided that The Girl made a most lovely babydoll and proceeded to dress her in every wig and gown that she had-- & lawd does that woman have a lot of costumery! Each outfit was more elaborate than the last. I was afraid that The Girl would not want to go home with me. In that one night M- gave The Girl more of a femme fix than she'd had in a lifetime. I'm sure it won't be long before she demands that we go back for more.
& I didn't even mention the food. We are still nibbling on leftovers (M sent us home with a bag so laden that it made my arm sore carrying it back to the car). I had an absolutely sublime pumpkin cheesecake. The turkey was so moist and tender. Everything was incredibly tasty and presented beautifully. I wish I could have eaten more, but a girl can only stash away so much in one night. M made popovers, which I haven't had in about 13 yrs, the last time I was in New England. Popovers are one of those things I love and have never been able to make. M- however has quite a knack for them.
Friday night we walked over to Lucy's and stuffed our bellies full once more. Tamales, tacos turtles and tequila, oh my! Everything was so tasty. G and Lucy did such a wonderful job. then of course, it was so nice to meet so many of the people that I read everyday. nshgirl's picture posts don't quite do her justice; she is far prettier. I already knew how cute Lucy was, but she was even cuter in her Tulle TuTu and Turquoise TighTs. So good that Lucy lives a short walk away, because by the end of the night I was rightly buzzed. I ended up catching a ride with someone, so that was an added bonus. I also made a new lj friend in parlance, and I am looking forward to reading more from her soon.
Honestly, I partied more this weekend than I have the entire time I've lived in L.A. It gives me a bit of a hope. I am starting to think that perhaps the next 5+ years won't be comprised exclusively of studies and solitude.
Speaking of studies, there is still one more week of classes, so I should hop to. this week I am reading, Black Marxism, more Spillers and some lit crit and theory to flesh out my essay on motherhood and geographies of home in the works of Octavia Butler.
