Blah, the weekend went way too quickly. I had to pop into work on Saturday afternoon to drop something off to a colleague, which I think screwed up the pacing of my precious two days off. And I feel dead to the world this morning. Am contemplating going to get a bacon sandwich to wake me up. I feel as though I deserve one.
I went to see “Brick” at the cinema last night. I came out very much underwhelmed. I had read somewhere that it was like a film version of “Veronica Mars”, which - no, not at all. Yes they share the same premise: a high school kid trying to find out who had murdered his/her ex-girlfriend/best friend, and both use a lot of noir elements, but that’s where any similarities end. “Brick” took itself *incredibly* seriously (the couple of black-comedy moments there were I did really like, but man they were sparse), the dialogue and acting felt flat and lifeless, I didn’t care about any of the characters…it really was fairly tedious. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind or something: it was going for a specific style which it may have achieved, but which I didn’t care for at all. I was bored most of the way through. Probably hard-core noir fans might appreciate it, though. And there was some beautiful cinematography, so that was nice.
I can’t *believe* Chris has gone. I was not expecting that at all. Even though he wouldn’t be my choice of winner anyway, I do think that he would have been a good winner for the *show* - someone in a different mould to what they’ve had before. But if the public don’t like him enough then I suppose it’s just not to be.
I’m hoping against hope that Taylor will be out next, even though there’s not a cat’s chance in hell that’ll happen. I wonder what songs the judges will give them to sing…seeing as they swing like pendulums without a cause between “that was too safe and boring, you need to break out of the mould and challenge yourself” and “that wasn’t the right song for you, you should stick to what you know works and give the audience what they want” it’ll be interesting to see which way they go with their song choices.
I didn’t especially like Saturday’s “Doctor Who”. I kept drifting off and not really paying attention to what was happening. I’m becoming increasingly convinced that Christopher Eccleston was the major draw for me to the series. There’s nothing *wrong* with David Tennant, I do really like his performance but something just seems to be missing. A sense of darkness and pain…gah, I don’t know.
Reading it back, this has been a very complaining sort of post. Clearly I need to go and get that bacon sandwich, which will turn everything around and make things fabulous.
