It's much easier if I copy my myspace!
So I took a day off for the first time and went to a doujincon, the first since I came back to Japan.
These things amaze me every time. This is an event two to three times the size of Otakon, which alone blows my mind. Making it more strange yet is the fact that despite its size, it's only in full swing for four hours. Technically it runs for thirty more minutes, but during that time everyone is packing up so there's not a lot to see. This was a Super Comic City, so there were 25,000+ artists there. That's a lot, and four hours isn't enough to see even half of what I wanted to see...especially considering that I had to wait in line for over an hour to get in. But that's okay, because I still found a lot of cool stuff!
I like doujin, but this time I was more interested in the original art and the handmade things. As usual, Greenglass and her buddies were there and I picked up a pile of stunning stationary. I got original art postcards too here and there. After spending a long time in this area I went to look at all the handmade jewelry and ended up buying two bracelets and necklaces. It's a popular hobby here, and the quality is amazing. I'd pay three times that amount if I bought the stuff in a real store. Doujincons are tops for buying nice jewelry. I'd have bought more but I was really trying to rein myself in. After finishing all of this I had maybe thirty minutes left, so I ran to look at Lord of the Rings stuff for old time's sake.
There's two circles with amazing art devoted only to telling stories from the Silmarillion. I couldn't believe it. I remain the only person I know who loved the Silmarillion, and so their art was a real find. I only bought two of their books for now, but I'll be on the lookout for more. I'm even more surprised that they had fliers for an event where 60 different artists would be selling Silmarillion art and fiction. That is so awesome, there are no words ^^;
After that, even though everything was closing down, I ran to the GSeed section just to see if there was anything there. And completely on accident, I ran across the table of one of my three favorite artists in the whole fandom, and she had POSTERS! It was sad because she was mostly sold out, but I did manage to get two of them, and one of them has been a favorite pic for a long time. So success there, if limited! Maybe next time I'll scout them out first.
As it was though I had a great time, even though it was really hot around noon and I was crowded in all day. I missed going to those!
In other news, I've started serious studying for my JLPT, which means I bought several more textbooks. To tell the truth, I don't know if I'll be able to pass this test. My teacher seems to think we can, but when I can't read a third of the instructions in the text because I can't read the kanji, we have a problem. I've got three months though and I've already paid the steep fee for the test, so I have to try.
Other than that not a lot is new...I'm watching Claymore, and it continues to be beautiful and depressing. I can't take too much of it at once. Still reading Tsubasa, which hasn't got depressing yet but is getting there, I know. I like Fai a lot, the lazy fool. And I'm so sorry for him because I saw too much flipping through volume 19. Alas, Fai! I'm also shamefully reading Harry Potter fanfiction because it's been a LONG time since I've read fanfiction. I cannot believe so many people pair Hermione and Snape. What's worse is that I'm reading a story where the author is very painstakingly making it happen, in a believable fashion. Where do people get that couple? That's so out in left field I don't know what to think ^^;
