WHO: Edward Cullen, Bella Swan
WHAT: Edward finds Bella. :> Who knows what else. xD
WHERE: Park, Docks, And in between, so far.
WHEN: Day 30.
It had been a relief, at first, to know that Bella was here, somewhere, in this bizarre place. That he could communicate to her through the journals, and hopefully find her.
At least, until the stench of blood from one of the previous pages reached his nose, and it was so strong, and overwhelming. It made him want to flip a few pages back, to see what it was - but he knew if he did, it would only make the smell stronger. How so much blood had gotten into this journal without him touching it was beyond his knowledge, and he didn’t care. Not right now. Not when he hadn’t eaten in a week, and his eyes were an even colour between topaz and onyx.
He’d had to scribble a message to Bella, and move away from it. Away from the bench where it was set down, closed, while he tried to catch his bearings a few feet away. The few people in the park were looking at him strange, but he didn’t care. Maybe it was because they could tell his skin was shining just a little more than normal humans should have, but did it matter? He had more important things to deal with right now.
And he tried to go back to the journal, to open it to the page he’d been writing to Bella on, but he couldn’t. Every time he opened the book, he could smell it again.
So he resorted to waiting. Waiting for Bella to come find him, and hopefully then he could get her to tear the damned pages out for him so he could actually go near it. It could come in handy in the future if Bella was ever away from him.
He wished his sense of smell was stronger, or that he could hear peoples’ thoughts, here - it would have been easier, then, since he could have just gone to go find her.
Bella held her journal open with both of her hands, eyes scanning the page quickly and efficiently, hands shaking as she read the last of his short message. Edward wasn't like her. He wasn't weak and soft and he certainly didn't lose his cool over nothing. Quickly, despite the fact that Edward said that he had to get away from the book, she tucked it into her coat pocket, clinging to it like her lifeline; it was the only way for her to get into contact with Edward, no matter how briefly.
She'd thought she'd been alone. Alone on a beach in the middle of the damn Caribbean with no one. Not even Jake. The thought made her tense up, all still muscles and shaking hands, she didn't know anything about this place. That was the worst part. The book only frightened her more, the first thing she opened up to being a page splattered with blood and carrying an odd odor.
Click. Pieces of the mental puzzle she'd been putting together clicked into place with a snap, her brain connecting the dots between the blood and Edward's Bella moment as she'd come to think of it.
She ran up the dock, trying to look everywhere at once. "Edward?!" she screamed in her loudest voice, chest heaving.
His head snapped up, looking out over the trees towards the beach. He heard her; vaguely, but he had. She was over there, somewhere. The docks, where he’d shown up, maybe? Edward had no idea.
Looking over at the journal, he frowned. He’d have to take that with him somehow. Holding his breath would stop the smell, but it would be uncomfortable. At least until he found Bella and could get this resolved.
“Bella!” He yelled, in the direction he’d heard her voice from, before he looked at the book once more and sighed. Stopping his breathing completely, he reached down to pick up the book and turn to head towards the ocean. If he got lucky, Bella would stay where she was, and he could find her with relative ease.
Her ears weren't near as sensitive as his, but she stayed put; her eyes still studying the horizon. Her shoulders relaxed when she heard a faint sound that sounded a lot like her name. She reached up to press the heels of her palms against her eyes, consoling herself with the fact that Edward really was here and it really was going to be okay, blood-splattered books or not. Becoming impatient and nervous, Bella gave a frustrated sound and ran towards the direction of his voice.
He must be so tempted, she thought morosely, thinking that if she could smell the blood, then it must be a thousand times worse for Edward. She thought about how being around her did the same thing to him and felt the constant guilt settle low in her stomach once again. Could she really be so selfish? She vaguely remembered the dark four months after Edward left and decided that yes, yes she could.
Coming over a hill, she spotted his familiar stature coming towards her and she pushed herself harder, concentrating mostly on not getting her feet tangled up under her. Almost there...
His eyesight and hearing weren’t nearly as good as they had been back in the world they’d come from, so he didn’t hear or see Bella coming until he could see her come over the hill. It was strange, being even with the humans in his senses for the first time in what felt like his whole life.
Edward hurried towards her, picking up the pace a little bit. He couldn’t even run like he used to. He dropped the book when he was a few feet away from her, making sure it landed closed before he could finally breathe. “My goodness, Bella…” He couldn’t believe his luck, to have found her so soon without his heightened senses. He didn’t even sparkle in the sun like before. He felt so human, except for the fact that he still needed blood to satiate him.
Strong arms reached out to pull her closer to himself, burying his face in his hair. Anything to drown the scent of that book out. And if it was Bella, it was all the more better.
"Edward..." she relaxed against his chest for a moment, which she noticed wasn't as hard or cold as usual. "Are you okay? I saw the blood in the journal and I needed to find you-- what is this place?" she asked, spitting out her words at a rapid-fire pace, too many thoughts, too many questions-- and his usual stupefying effect on her wasn't helping matters any. She breathed in deep, burrowing her face against his chest.
"I thought I was alone," she began shakily. "I thought...I didn't know what was going on."
Her brain was going too fast for her mouth and for a second, she thought grumpily about how if she were a vampire, she wouldn't be having this problem. Her nerves had significantly calmed by Edwards presence and it gave her enough stability to look around, spotting the book Edward had tossed on the ground and quickly pulling away from him to pick it up.
She turned away from him, quickly flipping to the page with the blood that she had seen earlier and crumpled it in her capable fists, taking care not to get any of it on her hands before doing the same with the pages in her book.
Bella ran a few paces away from Edward, pulling back her arm and throwing the crumpled paper as far away as she could.
"There. Any better?"
