Flowers.
Walking into the town square, the word of the day seemed to be flowers... everywhere. The most prominent were brightly colored chrysanthemums, but there were others interspersed here and there, adding additional colors and fragrances to the otherwise already cheery air. Music drifted through the air, soft but happy, beneath the buzz of conversation, adding a pleasant backdrop. Food and other refreshments sat on one of the many long tables near one end of the festival grounds; drinks were labeled, generally, according to alcohol content.
Yes, one would not be able to tell that just a week or two ago, this place was completely submerged, covered by a blanket of dreary gray, with animals running rampant and rabid through the knee-deep water.
