A Live Wire, Barely A Beginner

Naysayers would never have guessed it, but the interior of the Tengu's Nest was surprisingly spacious. Even with the tables, chairs, and various other odds and ends added, there was still plenty of space left for the normally reserved proprietor's agenda. Tonight, that agenda was a feast. Not just so he could be with those he'd come to feel kinship for, but so those same someones could use this night to bond with the people in their lives.
The fact it'd been him who'd come up with this idea surprised Hotsuma greatly. Of the quartet that had formed on the night of that barroom brawl, he'd always been the most taciturn. The least likely to propose these kinds of things. This place was changing him... and he found he liked what he was seeing.
On a more personal (and somewhat humorous) level, he felt this driving need to redeem himself despite Rogue's reassurance. He'd failed his friends as a navigator. He would not fail them as a host.
Atop a stool, the last of the Oboro struck a match and held it high. The final patch of darkness in the currently empty Nest flared into light. Perfect. Now that the ambiance had been taken care of, he could focus on tonight's repast. It wasn't long before the stool was set aside and the ninja took up a knife. He worked swiftly and surely, hacking the ingredients for sukiyaki into bite-size pieces. He'd have prepared this sooner, but everyone knew sukiyaki was best served simmering-hot.
Outside, the Nest's new pet would caw her welcome to tonight's guests in a perfect imitation of Hotsuma's seldom-heard voice.
