[There's a soft knock on the door of the room he's in at some point before Jilly just lets herself in. She's painfully familiar with this sense of loss and there's no good in trying to hide from any of that, but if he looks over at her, he'll get a dim little smile all the same.]

Hey.

[Oh, it's Jilly. He can't really look at Jilly. Good thing he was staring out the window just then. He'll just keep doing that. ]

Hey.

[Well... that's a physical response that can be read a lot of different ways... She'll just move to sit next to him, joining him in staring out the window.]

[It's not even raining. Random people are sweeping through the street below like they actually have somewhere to go.

Stevie speaks suddenly.]

He dumped his hot water out on one of those.

[Not really any point in asking who.]

Did he ever say why?

It was an accident. [The reflex to crack a smile shows up in a weird, twisted way.]

Just didn't see 'im, I guess.

Bet they were happy about that. [There's a little bit of a laugh in her voice, although it fades when she looks to him and sees that smile. She shifts a little so their shoulders brush. Not anything particularly firm, but enough to let him know that she's there and not going anywhere.]

[Words start out of him the second they touch, as if sparked by the contact.]

We were just-- talking. Normal stuff. [For once.]

Yeah? [A gentle prompt, before she has to laugh a little.] It's always those moments that stick out the most.

It was the day before yesterday. Not like I'm gonna forget.
