[It was unusually cold for an island, and Makoto was confused and gradually becoming concerned. It wasn't often that she woke up on islands...actually, it had never happened before to her knowledge. Waking up in a spaceship? Definitely. In the 30th century? It had happened before. But magical islands, absolutely not.

Makoto wrapped her arms around herself and threw one of the guards a dirty look. She'd never run into walking tincans who didn't know how to treat girls properly either, and Sei's comments about the king in this place had her on edge. What time period was this anyway? Everything looked so old-fashioned...Makoto felt out of place in her school uniform.

At the least, Rei was here...Chibiusa too, even though she hadn't seen her yet.

Makoto was surprised at the hug -- Rei wasn't really the hugging type -- but she wrapped her arms around the other girl all the same. Was she crying? No way...Rei wasn't a crier either.]

Hey, Rei-chan! I'm happy you're here. [But where were the others?]

[ Rei grinned and squeezed Makoto's shoulders gently, being sure to collect herself before she took a step back and handed the coat and scarf over. ]

Yeah, it's really good to see you. ...you're never going to believe what I'm going to tell you.

[Makoto took the scarf first and carefully wrapped it around her neck. Just from looking at the coat, she could tell it would be too tight around her chest and waist..it was a bright color too, didn't look like something Rei would wear. Her expression was dubious.]

Is it more unbelievable than waking up in a weird place like this? [She thought of her failed transformation and frowned. She would have to discuss that with Rei later, in private.] I think I'll believe just about anything right now. [A tentative smile.]

[ Rei only seemed to notice now that it was one of Minako's coats from the previous winter. Her smile faded for but a moment before she linked arms with Makoto and started leading her back toward the manor. ]

It gets worse. I mean... it's not all bad, but in a couple weeks, you're definitely going to start wondering when you're going to wake up.

[ Rei seemed to be lost in thought for a moment, trying to work out the best way to start this explanation without sounding crazy. Or overwhelming Makoto. She realized that it was probably impossible to avoid both, so she took the most direct route. ]

Basically, we're on an island called Rivelata, on a world called Ce Monde. Some people are natives, but most of the people in the journals are like us. They were taken from their homes, all different worlds and times. No one knows why or how, and we can't get back. People come and go, but...

I've been taking care of Chibiusa-chan. I've been here for about... a year, I think? Minako-chan was here too, but... she disappeared.

[Makoto slowed her pace some to keep up with Rei, and looked around while they walked.] I'm already wondering that. [She smiled, a bit, to take the edge off of her words.

Her expression slowly went blank as Rei began to explain their predicament.] A...year? Rei-chan, I was just with you. [As Jupiter and Mars, but that was besides the point.] Chibiusa-chan and Minako-chan were there too.

[And that was alarming.] Disappeared? How is that...you mean she just vanished into thin air? Minako...

[Makoto raked a hand through her hair, looking alarmed and shaken.] Has anyone else we know been here?

[ Again, Rei paused to think for a moment. ]

Mm, Usagi-chan, Meioh-san, Kaioh-san... I think that's everyone. Chibiusa-chan and I are the only ones left though, and now you.

It's kind of works that way though, with the time thing. Minako-chan and I came from way different times, and when you leave it's like time in your home world stops or something. People who've come back here say that they go home, it's like they never left. It's... kind of confusing.

Like... the last thing I remember before coming here was that Diamando was about to put the imperium crystals together and destroy the world. But when Minako-chan was here, she told me that had happened ages ago and that I'd still been with everyone. So it's like... you're taken from just that second in time and nothing else is affected.

It's really weird. I don't like to think about it so much.

... [The thought of any of her friends blinking out of existence is frightening, but especially Usagi...] I'm sorry, Rei-chan.

[She's quiet for a long while, taking in the scenery, her arms locked behind her head. The talk of Diamando makes her halt though, turn to Rei, baffled.] That far back? [She shakes her head.] And Diamando never tried to put the imperium crystals together. You've gotta be remembering it wrong, or something.

[ Rei stopped short for a moment, frowning faintly at Makoto before she began walking again. ]

I think I'd remember the last thing that happened to me, Makoto-chan. It was right after Chibiusa... you know. The Black Lady.

Yeah, I remember that. [She's lowered her arms to her sides now.] But I'm telling you, he never tried to merge the crystals. [She's frowning, and then shrugs it off.] I guess it's not that important, maybe we're both mixed up. So much has happened since then.

[ Rei pursed her lips together a bit. Makoto was from their future, just like Minako had been... just like everyone who'd been here seemed to be. Rei was starting to feel out of the loop. ]

Well, no one can really figure out how to get out of here. The whole thing is kind of stupid. If I could have gotten out of here and back to Usagi-chan, I would have a long time ago. It makes me feel irresponsible...

[Makoto shakes her head.] If no one can get out, then you shouldn't feel irresponsible. Usagi-chan's fine! The last I saw her, anyway. [She smiles reassuringly.]

I want to know more about this place. What's happened while you've been here?
