This used to be my childhood dream (In Progress, Open)

Apr 01, 2008 00:08

Who: Severus Snape and Lily Evans (hopefully with later appearances by James Potter and Sirius Black)
What: Snape attempts to rebuild bridges with a ghost from his past.
Where: The Crab Claw Inn
When: Noonish

The air off the ocean smelled of seaweed and salt, and Severus smelled of betrayal. He must, he figured. He'd been soaking in it for so long, it must be seeping from his pores.

A few days spent voraciously reading this strange little book-a personal archive of people's experiences in this city for the whole of the past month-and he still had no real explanation for how he had come to be here. Or how figures from his own childhood-seemingly frozen in time, departing from some moment before their deaths-had come to be here either. He had seriously wondered, at first, if he might not be dead: Lily, Potter, and Black were all dead, after all.

But to judge from the comments left by the city's newest denizens, they were not the first group of acquaintances to meet in "Rivelata" from across disparate times in their own world. If that was, indeed, what this turned out to be. Probably, Severus thought, he should not assume: Lily hadn't recognized his picture. Neither had Black, for that matter. And though he had aged (perhaps unkindly) he didn't think that he should be so wholly unrecognizable to them. It was possible that they came from completely different histories entirely.

And if that were the case, he had absolutely no way to anticipate just what this meeting would be like. No way of knowing how Lily would react to seeing him, whether she would be angry, or what she might say.

But he had to find out. He hadn't seen her in nearly twenty years. His best friend. Still the only real friend he'd had his whole life. This is what he had wanted--all the times that he had thought, If I knew then what I know now. If I had understood… This was the second chance he had wished for! And maybe he didn't give a damn if the price he had to pay was being dropped unceremoniously onto a damn sub-tropical Muggle island that was a few hundred years behind schedule on whatever technology they all always seemed so all-fired bloody fond of.

Arriving a few minutes early, Snape swept into the pub in the Crab Claw's ground floor, his robes catching a bit of breeze stirred by the closing door-they made him stand out a bit, but he was still less conspicuous than several of the city's residents he'd seen. Given what a patchwork the population apparently was, it seemed relatively easy for a wizard to blend in among the Muggles. Small favors, he supposed.

Selecting a table with a clear view of the door, Severus folded his hands neatly and sat down to wait, his posture and expression betraying none of the nervousness he actually felt.
