It was after closing time. That was convenient. It meant that Remus could show Kiba around without having to worry about customers and their potentially sticky fingers. Sticky fingers as in... not because there was sugar on them. Merlin's beard, even things in his head didn't make sense sometimes.

Remus smiled and waved, leaving the cash drawer he'd been counting open as he rounded the counter. His left arm was still wrapped with rather thick bandages, but he extended his good hand to Kiba when he came closer.

"There you are, Kiba. Alright, then?"

"Hey, man!" Kiba grinned, walking towards him and Akamaru padding quietly behind. "Good to see you!" It was. Sure he didn't know the guy that well, but he seemed pretty cool and that was important. Nothing about him smelled off, and that was good too. Some people just had a weird vibe - Remus did not. Kiba certified, yeah! Akamaru certified too, apparently, because the big dog wandered over with his tongue lolling out and sat next to Remus quite happily.

Shaking the guy's good hand and then releasing it, Kiba looked around the shop curiously. "Wow. This is real different from anything I saw back in Konoha. This stuff from your world?" And he was already looking at items on the shelves, overwhelmed by his own curiosity.

Remus was a bit surprised at how terribly friendly Kiba was. Oh, but how he loved dogs! He knelt down to bring himself eye level with Akamaru, and started scratching the dog fondly behind the ears. Padfoot always loved that one... that, and right underneath his chin. Those were the sweet spots.

Kiba would probably notice straight off the bat that many of the sweets weren't precisely staying in one place. The boxes of chocolate frogs jumped every now and again as their inhabitants tried to leap free, and there was a shelf spanning an entire wall filled with cages of fully-sentient mice made entirely of sugar.

"We have a lot here... I don't expect you to know everything right off the bat, but I'll write up a list for you to familiarize yourself with..."

Wow, there was so much stuff! Kiba picked up a box of-- what, were those beans? -- and sniffed it, surprised by all the different smells that came off it. Hey, was that meat? Huh! He put the box down, making a mental note to ask why there were beans that smelled like caramel and steak and mint and a bunch of other stuff all mixed together, and moved along the self. "Yeah, that'd be great."

Akamaru, on the other hand, stayed in place, tilting his head to the side, tongue hanging out in the least ninja-like manner possible and tail thudding against the floor.

Then, Kiba found the mice. "Hey! Hey, you weren't kidding about sugar mice! This is way cooler than dango!"

It was like... uh. Like watching a kid in a candy shop.

Remus grinned, watching Kiba carefully as he wandered around the shop. Really, there wasn't much one had to know about this place, but for the various dangers of the merchandise. It was like a cross between a sweets and pet shop.

"Ah, yes. About those," Remus said, getting to his feet again to stride over to Kiba. "Notice the locks on the tops of those tanks? They're very slippery things, and they have a tendency to get out everywhere. So be very careful if you have to get any of them out for a customer."

Kiba nodded. Yep, yep, that made sense. "It's really cool that they can move," he added insightfully. "Don't worry about them getting out. I have good reflexes and stuff." Really! Maybe excessively so for herding sugar mice, but it never hurt, right? "Got other stuff that moves a lot?"

Now he was focusing more on the sweets, his sense of smell and hearing which had gradually gotten sharper over the last month, the store sounded practically alive. Akamaru barked, once, and Kiba nodded at him. "Yeah, I know. Beats all the shops in Konoha."

He turned to Remus with a grin. "How long did it take you to come up with this stuff?"

"Well, there are the chocolate frogs. We keep them in boxes though, and they're not as active. Every now and then, one of the boxes will fall off the display, but... not much to worry on there."

He ran a hand through his hair as he wandered back behind the counter to grab some parchment and a quill. Remus always enjoyed watching people when they'd first come into the store. It was a sort of wide-eyed wonder he remembered so well from his first couple years of school, before the magic all became so ordinary.

"Oh, Lily thought most of it up. A lot is just copying the things we had back home, but Lil thought up a load on her own. Such a smart girl."

"So flattering, Rems!" Ah, there was Lily, marching out of one of the several back rooms with a small basket of prototypes. She set it up on the counter and eagerly approached their guest, beaming all the while as she offered her hand. "Evans. Lily Evans, pleased to meet you. The chocolophants are going to be a nasty bit to look out for. I'm still trying to think of how to contain them. ...They herd," she added after a moment's thought, and gave Remus an incredibly terrified expression. "Oh, do they herd."

Okay, cool, he could follow this. But chocolate frogs, huh? He grinned. "Chocolate frogs? Heh, I have a friend back home who'd love that!" Or hate it. Whatever, Naruto'd probably like it.

Or he could put it in his ramen, eheh.

Kiba had been about to open his mouth to ask about Lily and the things back home, when another person wandered up. "Evans." The smell was familiar, and the face too. "Oh, Potions Lady. From the other night!" He scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, I remember you! Figured you had to be smart with all that medical stuff!" His other hand made it to the back of his head, fingers hooking together. "Don't worry about me, I'm good with animals. And fast! And I probably have a worse bite."

He grinned again, showing off his sharp canines.

"Herd." Remus sounded troubled for a moment as well, looking up momentarily as Lily came out of the back room. It heralded a particularly nasty recollection of some initial experiments with the sugar mice... and his pants.

"Oh, Lily," Remus motioned toward Kiba, tapping the quill against his cheek for a moment. "Since Sirius is off taking a rather frightening emotional journey with his cafe, we could use a bit of extra help. I'd like to give Kiba a go, if that's alright with you."

"Kiba! Oh, right! Yes, yes, right! I remember you. Terribly sorry," Lily fussed a little, waving a hand in the air even as Remus spoke. "I'm scared of that emotional journey," she admitted. "I have nightmares about it. Recurring. Crispy cupcakes chasing me with pitchforks and tor--"

Focus.

Focus.

"Yes, yes, he'd be a wonderful addition. And ... his dog. You know, Remus, we could do something with that. With this bright young lad and Kiba."

That emotional journey sounded like that journey Naruto did. A frown tugged at his lips and and his brow furrowed. "Uh. That-- Sirius guy. Ain't traveling around with a perverted old man, is he?" Because that didn't seem to end good ever. That Jiraiya guy was creepy.

Anyway. That wasn't the point. He shook his head to try and keep on task. When he zoned back in, he caught the name mix up, and barked a laugh. "I'm Kiba! He's Akamaru," he explained, as said giant dog stood and poked at Lily's hand with his nose "Once we get our clone jutsu back Akamaru can help too, if it's busy and stuff."

Remus was about to respond to Lily in a somewhat apprehensive manner, when Kiba started talking about Sirius traveling with a perverse old man. While that probably would be a very interesting journey indeed, it was ever stranger that Remus could actually visualize him doing something like that. He hung his head and chuckled, shaking his head slowly.

"I think she's quite aware of that, Kiba," Remus said, still laughing. "Lily's rather fond of dogs. Seems to harbor them everywhere."

Remus cast Lily a sly, knowing look.

Clone Jutsu. Whatever that was, okay. She was sure it was useful.

She watched Remus a little stupidly for a moment before everything suddenly sank in, and she made a high-pitched, chirp-like sound and clapped her hands together. "Right! Dogs, love them. Can't seem to get away from them, apparently." She paused. "So, Remus, speaking of the lovely mutts I've managed to collect, I've been thinking-- And Kiba, don't be shy-- I've been working on quite a few potions. I'd love to make an addition to the store specifically for them, but that's ... somewhat unrelated. I do have an idea for another addition. Dog food? Dog treats? Cat treats? Snake treats? Magical, of course, but nothing dangerous. Playful, delicious, nutritious, all of that hubbub."

Confusion started to pass over his face when Remus started laughing. What? It was a legitimate question! People traveled around with all sorts of weirdos - and they were still weirdos, even if they were one of the Legendary Sannin! Geez!

"Oh." Huh. Well that made sense. "Yeah, dogs are pretty great." Biased? Yeah, whatever.

Akamaru woofed quietly at the mention of treats. "Treats, eh? Think Akamaru could help with that!" Maybe it'd even be another time for clone jutsu. Man, he really needed to get that back. "Sounds like a good idea to me, anyway. Just gonna be making candy for the animals that ain't human, right?" For a moment he thought of Shino's bugs and the Hokage's pig, and scratched his chin. "That gonna count bugs and pigs and stuff too?"

Kiba's contemplation wasn't sharp, but hopefully Akamaru poking at Lily's hand with his nose would take away from the ninja's ramble.

Remus gave Kiba a very strange look. People kept bugs and pigs as pets? Well that was strange. Was it a muggle thing? Granted, he thought the people in Gryffindor who kept toads and rats as pets were fairly strange, too. Perhaps he wasn't the best judge of small, cute things. After all, if someone loved the animal, he supposed it didn't matter was it was.

Dating a man had opened his mind quite a bit.

"Lily, my darling, it sounds like a smashing idea. Godspeed."
