Standing on the other side of the chair, a bit away from it, though keeping an eye on Bela and Travis, he crossed his arms over his chest, hoping things would go smoothly. Like Balthier, he did not want any loss of lives, there was no need for it. Head turning slightly to look over the newcomer, Basch felt better as their numbers increased, but then again, numbers had never done him any good in previous battles before.
"We are waiting, they will arrive on their time." Basch offered the long haired brunette, Jade not Bela of course. The waiting was starting to make him nervous, but he would not let it be known. For now, things were going their way, that was enough to be glad for.

But he wasn't one to back down from things.
Slouching against a wall, he played with the handle of Tsubaki between his gloved fingers. At least if those people from the journal showed up - especially that one douchebag, Uncle Fuckhead or whatever - it would give him something useful to do... that wasn't mopping.
Even though he didn't particularly give a damn about their ransom, he didn't bother the girl either - he didn't really see the point.
"Maybe you should shove her face-first in the journal and give them some incentive," he added in a bored tone, not really paying attention to the newcomer. Hey - if the furfags could do it, why couldn't they? Fucking noseprints.

She was, however, increasingly annoyed and more than a little hurt.
That bitch was doing her best to play five years old and make Claire positively miserable-- it was stupid, it wasn't like it would change anything at all, her teasing left and right; from a girl who was seemingly very straight for that other guy, it wasn't particularly frightening. That other guy-- Balthier, was that his name?-- had done plenty of threatening, but hadn't actually touched her.
And then Cross--
Go Ahead. Give her a kiss from me.
He really sounded a whole lot like he fucking cared.
Was anyone even going to care about getting her? Peter was in the jungle, Cross didn't care enough to even tell her that he was worried for her, or missing her, or anything.
Who else was going to come give a shit enough to rescue her? Sylar? Sure.
She was struggling in her bonds every now and then, but it was becoming less frequent. She was losing hope and motivation-- he probably would kill her eventually. Then she could crawl out of whatever pile of fish and nets they'd leave her body to rot in and hate herself just that little bit more.
If only she could see them. Glare at whoever was making those goddamn noseprint remarks.

Standing up straight, Bela surveyed the room. Everyone was growing weary and restless, herself included. Even teasing Claire was starting to lose its fun. Hands on her hips, she tapped her foot impatiently, glancing at the door every few seconds.
It was either going to be the General, himself, or someone with the General. Judging from what she read in Balthier's journal, it looked like it was going to be the latter or latter(s). There were a number of people who cared a great deal about Claire, Dean included much to her surprise and dismay.
Sighing dramatically, Bela turned her attention on Claire again.
"Looks like no one is showing for you, Clairebear," she announced, with another tap on her nose.

Reinforcements had arrived. Balthier hadn't been expecting Jade so soon, but early was better than never. The sky-pirate quit his pacing to greet the Colonel, a calm smile on his handsome face. "As you can see, you've arrived before the play has started. So far we have the protagonists and damsel, but no antagonists. Unless perhaps we're the antagonist, and they're the protagonists- No matter, your help is very much appreciated."

Jade detailed the group that had assembled around the kidnapped girl. They were all armed, swords, guns, knives... the conspicuous absence of staves told him everything he needed to. No caster, and probably no healer. This group was makeshift at best, not the sleek, efficient, expeditionary forces of the Malkuth military. He assumed this was what it felt like, living on the other side of the law... and he wasn't sure he liked it very much.
"I assume I am the heavy artillery", Jade stated, his smirk widening and making his startling crimson eyes sparkle -let it never be said that he did not enjoy his job- "I work best when I have the target in my line of sight ; and while I am perfectly capable of close range combat, it makes casting offensive magic quite a chore."
He moved past the group, and settled himself behind a shelf full of... well, he didn't really want to know what it was full of, leaned back, and crossed his arms, waiting.
Waiting... for Peony's ticket home to walk through the door.

Basch was glad when Balthier spoke up, as Bela would more likely listen to the sky pirate than a washed up old knight. As would anyone he supposed, and rightly so. At least this Jade character seemed better than the rest of Balthier's group, his manor of speech reminded him of the young pirate a lot. They probably got along well. With a sigh, he glanced around absently, wondering when and if someone would come to Claire's add. It would look a bit foolish on their part if no one did.

He caught the meaning in Balthier's glare - that look of 'keep your mouth shut' was one he'd seen many times before this. He simply shrugged, going back toying with the weapon in his hand. Not that he really gave a damn of what people thought of him, but there was no point in arguing with his own 'team.'
Travis had never really been a team player - then, when you're only friend is the guy at the video store, it would be a pretty damned lame team. He didn't really think he'd have a problem working with others, especially when the fighting started... But that wasn't to say that others wouldn't have a problem working with him.
"If you've got a magic user, and you've got a gun, then I guess it's me and Mr. White Knight here on the front lines?"
Hey, fair question. And it wasn't harassing the captive either.

No one was showing up for her.
Of course no one would.
Even if it was met with an immediate reprimand from another man, it didn't take away the weight of the words, and how true they sounded to Claire the second she heard them. No one was coming.
And the others couldn't help but chime in about strategy, and theatre, and everything related.
She felt like she was going to explode.

He paced slowly in the shadows of the warehouse, clicking his heels absently on the floor and feeling somewhat out of place within the group. He had been in the company of many strong personalities before, but he had never encountered a party quite like this.
He had initially agreed to assist Balthier in the hopes of scoring the reward for Fou and Bak Chan's bounty, if only for Euphemia's sake, but he was beginning to reassess his situation. Was that one reward really all he wanted, and would helping Balthier now benefit him in the end?
He sized up his new companions curiously; he had met four of them previously through the journals, but he had not spoken to the fifth, a scarred and imposing man standing near their seated captive. Zelos regarded him quietly.

"It should only be one man," Bela mused, crossing her arms. "Will he be that difficult to bring down?"

The odds were becoming better, especially against a single man. Balthier had looked carefully through the journals to find information on Cross. There hadn't been much else to do while waiting, and it had passed the time. Cross was a General, and seemed to have quite a few tricks up his sleeve- not to mention a brutal firearm.
"I'll be doing the talking, with Bela as my assistant. Those who prefer to work from afar, perhaps displace yourself around the warehouse evenly so we have a shot from every angle. Those who would prefer to be upclose and personal, flank Bela and I until the negotiations are over. I think together, the task it quite doable. Better for us though, if he has already been incapacitated."
Balthier rubbed at his eyes, betraying a little of the stress he felt under his mask of casual calm.
"We have yet to be informed if Cross is coming of his own free will, or if he is being brought a prisoner in exchange for Claire." The last option, which he hoped would be the least likely to happen. Balthier had been intentionally over the top in his threats, in order to avoid the possibility that no one would show for the girl at all. It would be sad for Claire, and a pain for them all if Cross was a no-show.

This was the most disorganised, amateur operation he had even been a part of. Not that he had ever been on this particular side of a kidnapping: when one spends years in the military, one tends to receive ransom notes, not send them, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Jade hoped that Cross would come on his own. Then this would be a pure formality, as he had no doubts he could take that man alone, and he had five extra bodies to help out, or at the very least take a few hits for him.
But if Cross ended up coming with reinforcements, and if they flanked him... with the pain that casting high level artes brought on in this world, he would not be able to fight efficiently with his spear...
Jade almost dropped his turnip.
"I fear we might have to start calling parts of this warehouse to sleep tonight. There is a burlap sack filled with some sort of cereal here, if anyone fancies a soft pillow."

Basch was worried though, about the others. The other men who'd seemed so worried, so intent, on getting Claire back. Surely they would come as well? He did not know for sure, but the idea that they'd have more than just Cross to deal with did not sit well with him. Even so, he'd do his best with what the situation threw at them.

Another fucking ponce. Great. Like Sensei wasn't enough.
Though, he had to admit - the presence of so-called magic did leave him wondering. After all, magic wasn't something natural to Santa Destroy... But really, what was natural in Santa Destroy? It couldn't be any hard to fight than that fucking moron Destroyman or the old man, Dr. Peace. He wasn't worried.
"I'm sure bitching is very tiring - you want to sleep here, be my guest. But personally, I don't like sleeping when there's anyone coming to try and kill me."
Keyword being try.
Thumbing the button of his weapon, Travis grinned darkly, turning his gaze to Balthier. These were the moments he lived for - the tension rising before the fight... Almost as exhilirating as the battle itself.
"Shotgun being a bodyguard. I'm all for being up close and personal."
... Fucking ponces.
