The new person squeezing by her to get into the room barely registered. Kaylee was still trying to process half the stuff Seven had said. Her mind was racing but not finding a clear track - EMH? Nanites?? People with circuits in their skin! - until she heard Seven telling the other woman a time frame.
Kaylee looked up at the new arrival. She had a kind face, and Seven was reporting to her, and she was obviously here to help. Okay, that was enough to go on. She found her legs again, got up slowly and shuffled over to Mr. McCoy, eyeing the floor at Seven's feet a little guiltily. How could she have thought, just for a split second, that maybe the other Starfleet officer was hurting the doctor?
"It's gonna be okay, doc," she said in a near-whisper, taking one of McCoy's hands in both of hers. "Medicine's already workin'."
Kaylee made herself look Seven in the eyes, then shifted her inquiring gaze to the new lady. "So, we just wait? There somethin' I kin do?" She suddenly felt about as useless as a horse saddle to a destabilized engine core.
The news was certainly not good. Nothing internal was ever good.
Lily fished through her satchel and procured a bottle of potion, uncorked it, and held it out toward him. "Nanites," she repeated to herself, unable to quell her curiosity. "Drink this. It's vile and putrid, not at all your mum's lemonade, but it will help."
Damn it, Sirius. Call her to a situation she wasn't sure she'd be any help at resolving. She had yet to test her healing potions so widely. The past few days, she'd gone so through so much she wound up setting another brew up in her potions pantry.
"...Waiting is about all any of us can do," Lily replied to the girl, offering a weak smile. "With our help, he'll be fine, but he'll need your support, too. You'd be amazed what all forms love can do. It's a very powerful thing."
Whatever they were all talking about, Leonard listened to none of it. He tried for a few seconds but gave up quickly. It wasn't something he needed to worry about at the moment.
His head lazily turned to Kaylee and the hand she had been holding. It was somewhat amusing to see how each person reacted to someone being at the verge of death. "It'll be okay." He repeated to her in a soft voice. Of course, McCoy couldn't manage a higher voice.
McCoy turned his head to the red head he was unfamiliar with. "Thank you." He reached his hand out, grabbing the bottle. "Thank you." He repeated again. McCoy held it to his mouth, trying to take a sip but he could barely move. The small drops that landed on toungue made the man almost gag. "Wh-What did you say... this was?" He asked her.
The red-headed woman's words rang true in Kaylee's mind. Love had gotten Simon and River a place in the crew. It kept Inara, and consequently Mal, in business and put food on the table. Hell, sometimes love was the only thing kept Serenity flying.
And if Mr. McCoy hadn't loved being a doctor enough to stick with it at least up 'til now, she wouldn't be here for him. Kaylee let go of the one hand and gingerly took the bottle from his other one.
"It's like Motor-Oil," she coaxed, bringing it to his lips. "The blackest, greasiest doubleshot a' 'shine us mechanics kin brew. You just toss it back quicklike, an' you'll be feelin' it in no time. Bottoms up."
