[Jilly sat in the room, on the floor with her back pressed against the bed. She felt sick. She wanted to scream and hit things and just... pretend that that part of her life never happened, that it really was just one big nightmare...
But oh God, it had felt so real. It was like she was a little girl again and... She pulled herself into a tight little ball, not sure if she should cry or not.]
[Like always, Dick entered the one story house unseen through the back garden, unlatched the double doors and silently, on legs that felt too shaky for someone with perfect balance, made his way to the bedroom he shared with Jilly.
He knocked, cautiously. His voice obviously concerned, but assertive in that he could be the strength he needed right now.]
[There was the flare of panic at the male voice- No, stop, it's Dick, it's all right. It takes her a minute to get some semblance of control on her voice and even then it sounds a little panicked and choked.]
Yeah... Dick- [And the words fail there. She should get up and open the door, but neither of her legs seem to be cooperating.]
[Had he not been - to some extent - prepared just then, her voice would have broken him. Keeping one hand on he door knob, he twisted it and opened it slowly.
The lights were still out, but it didn't take him a minute - moonlight spilling in from he hall - to find her sat not on the bed, but on the floor.
Those shaky legs suddenly felt feather light and he took a few uncertain steps towards her. He crouched down in front of her]
C'mere
[and took her forearms in his hands, he unconsciously drew soothing circles over the skin of her wrists.
[She can't do much more than look up at him when he enters the room. It's like she's watching everything happen in delayed time before reacting to it. She leaned back before she could move when he took her forearms, a knee jerk reaction.
She took a breath and moved forward as much as she could to press her cheek against his shoulder.]
[She shuddered hard once before she could let herself hold on to him as tight as she wanted. He wasn't her brother. He wouldn't hurt her. She tried to think of something to say to him. Anything.]
[It was a little like remembering her self-worth all over again in a much shorter time span... She sighed and turned her head a bit, finding a more secure position against his shoulder. The coverlet around her shoulders made her sigh again.]
[He wondered how many other people had said the same thing this week. He knew he for one had been sleeping as little as possible, not out of fear, but for the others who would be involved, God knows there were things he didn't want to relive, and who knew what state he'd be in when he awoke? How could he look after Jilly if something bad happened to him?]
I'd like that. [And she began to pull herself up, under her own power. Whatever comfort she took from him, she still wanted to hold on to her independence. It helped her remember who she was.]
[She might have been pulling herself to her feet, but Dick only wanted to help, so as soon as there was enough grab space - as it were - he hooked an arm under her legs and around her back, scooping her up, blanket in tow.]
I understand /completely/ <3knightprodigyOctober 12 2009, 18:50:48 UTC
Is that a fact?
[He 'mmhm's making out he isn't quite listening to any of her protests while he carries her out into the back garden and settles her down on the faux-picnic bench, once again draping the coverlet around her shoulders. He hops up alongside her.]

I'm sorry I wasn't here. But it's over now. I promise.

It's never really over...
[Maybe not that...]

He just wanted to wish it all away, these old scars he could do nothing about.
He rubbed her back, and pulled the coverlet from their bed down, wrapping it around her shoulders.]
