When Ed and Al entered the room, the expression on his face was a mix between shock and surprise. The two boys were the last two people he expected to see here, on this strange island. And they looked... different from what he remembered.
Ed actually looked like he matured a little (and "matured" was a term he used loosely). He obviously didn't look like the Ed he remembered before he left(?); this one was definitely older, and maybe a few inches taller. Then of course, there was Al, which was quite obvious. He was human. How in the world did they accomplish that?
His rationalization kicked in then. Alphonse with a body and an older Edward could only mean that they had to be from the future. How far into the future from his time, he didn't know.
Roy had so many questions to ask, but decided to hold off on the barrage. Instead he said, "Edward... Alphonse... This is quite a surprise visit." Then to Alphonse, "The doctor told me that he'd have a healer come by once he sorts out the internal injuries." Finally to Ed, he provided the vaguest of answers, "And these? Just a few injuries sustained during battle."
