Like a rebellious teenager skulking out of his bedroom to catch a late-night party against his "father's" wishes, so Kanda had slipped out of his room early that morning. He maintained his distance from the rest of the group, watching closely. He would follow them, find out where they were going. If people knew he was there...well, the only person he was really worried about was Tiedoll. And he wasn't necessarily worried about the man. Kanda would burn that bridge when he came to it.

In a way, he did feel a little guilty. Kanda never disobeyed his General before, and here he was, sneaking behind the man's back doing exactly what he was ordered not to. However, being ordered to sit around while others were in danger brought back the extremely unpleasant memories of his fight with Skin Bolic, then Headquarters under attack, and he being unable to do anything except grab a couple of normal blades in the vain hope of defending the only place he had ever considered home. He swore to himself he wasn't going to let himself become that helpless ever again, and no fucking ligament was getting in the way of that vow. He faced a level 4 --a fucking level 4!-- akuma head on with just a mortal blade at his side and survived. The pain in his knee every time he walked was nothing.

Speaking of which, Kanda was a little surprised with it this morning. Turned out, he actually really didn't need his crutches anymore, that his leg was still able to somewhat support his weight. His knee still hurt like a bitch, though, and he most definitely couldn't take a brisk walk on it, much less run... but he could move independently. It was definitely healing.

Kanda watched as the group departed with Cross out of the gate and into the jungle. Tightening his grip on Eikyu, Kanda waited for a few minutes until they were out of sight then followed, limping considerably, but definitely much more stable on his feet than he had been.
