Dick had the same feelings about this as when Tim had arrived. And a truck load more. Babs was now stuck here too, and that was unfortunate, but mostly uncomfortable. Yes, she was one of his oldest friends, she was also the person he'd had feelings for since the age of 14 and the woman he had recently been engaged to.

They had parted on good terms. Mostly. Through somewhat cowardly letters. Their feeling's obviously too raw to go over in person. This would be the first time he'd seen her since the night previous to leaving Gotham with Bruce and Tim. Some 3 months ago. Of course it hurt, it still hurt. But just when he'd begun to move on, here she was. He still loved her, that wasn't something that would ever go away, but here in Rivelata he'd been faced with the possibility that he might never see her again. The promise he'd made to one day return to her hadn't been forgotten but- well, it was complicated.

This wasn't Europe. This wasn't his Batman or Tim. And God knows he hadn't found himself, instead of Dick Grayson he'd found Jimmy Olsen and created another life for himself..

His experiences with Batman and Tim, and Cassandra to a lesser extent (they at least, were from the same world, it was their time line that differed) were suddenly prevalent. What if this wasn't his Babs (although it certainly sounded like her), and what if she was from another place in time? Before their engagement... or after, in the future. Had he gone back to her?

All of this and more - Christ, Jilly - went through Dick's head as he and Tim, his personal interpreter for the day, made their way down to the docks. Perhaps it was fortunate that he couldn't speak, or wasn't willing to. God knows things were awkward enough. But hey, if things got too heavy he could give them all a chorus of 'Put On A Happy Face'. Grin and bear it, Grayson.
