Once the flood had receded, it was safe to return to the housing district, though it would arguably be difficult to resume living in them so soon after the flood, and before everything was cleaned. What had caused the disaster was still unknown - or at least he hadn’t been paying enough attention to find out - and any warning signs preceding the event were nonexistent - save for the animals retreating into the jungle. It just all seemingly came out of the blue.
Regardless, he was ashamed to think about how he had reacted when it came to escaping into the jungle for safety - he had acted like a child, throwing a tantrum and even though he thought he was strong, not afraid of anything - the truth of the matter was all contrary to how he really was and felt. Every time he thought about it he couldn't help but flush at his own stupidity and try to hide it from himself, because he was just far too ashamed - and the worse part was that several people knew of this, knew of his childish behavior. How is he ever going to be able to save face again?
As far as Nise knew, Riku, Clark, Schrodinger, and possibly others were aware of how terrified he had been of the jungle - but he had a reason. That still didn't cover up his act, and to redeem himself, he figured, would take a long time. He had to stop acting like a child! He was 16 now (or... one year old, however you want to look at it) so he had to act like a man, and tough it up. He would never top Riku at this rate, and to Clark he'll always seem the weaker of the two. Nise didn't want that, he wanted people to think of strong, tough, cool when they said his name - and not only did he have to be strong for himself, to best Riku, he needed to be strong to be able to protect Martel and Thumbelina and Sora - all of his friends, Riku too.
"Jeeze, look at this mess," the door groaned as Nise leaned his weight against it to make it open, the hinges rusting already and wooden door soaked and thick with water, "I don't think anything's salvageable..." it was a shame, because they had so many nick-knacks around the house - and Sora's room itself was loaded with things Sora's found or bought or received, making itunique. Nise's room was getting there too, but wasn't quite as nifty as the other's.
Water dripped from the ceiling and the furniture was covered with seaweed and oceanic life - everything was just ruined, and with a sigh, Nise started to turn tables right side up and carry the chairs into their rightful places, "This is gonna take forever. I don't even know if we'll be able to thoroughly clean all of this muck off. I don't even want to see Sora's room. I kind of feel bad, I bet it got trashed the worst since he has the most stuff," there was a pause as Nise stopped to wipe his face on the sleeve of his jacket, and lastly take a loud sniff, "and this all smells really bad. Everything's gonna smell like salt and fish for the next month." And how he wasn't looking forward to that. "Hey-" he called out to Riku, grinning, "catch!", and tossed a small fish in Riku's direction. Whether or not the other got hit in the arm with it or caught the dead, slippery thing was entirely up to him, but either or was enough to make Nise laugh as he continued to put some order back into the living room to make it easier to walk through.
