Kaoru waved pleasantly at the customer who just left the store, before pulling a drawer in the desk open and frowning down at it.
It was his journal. Valentine's Day... The Host Club had done all sorts of things - practically every day had been like Valentine's Day.
But he was tired of reading the journals - so much pain and loss and blood and people coming and going. In a year's time, he'd made an impressive number of friends, and yet... nearly all of them were gone now.
Looking over his shoulder to where his brother was, Kaoru had to smile. He'd lost Hikaru once - the fact that he was still here was Kaoru's one saving grace; he refused to think about what would happen if one day Hikaru disappeared like so many others.
Right now he was trying to hold onto the last vestiges of normalcy they had left here, and one of the few things that hadn't changed in nearly a year - The Hitachiin Brothers running Eagle's Splendour. Little things like that were the only ones that could bring a smile to his face anymore.
Or when a new customer walked in the door.
Kaoru closed the drawer and walked out front to greet the person. "Hello and welcome to Eagle's Splendour, how may I help you?"
The days passed easier that way too.
