WHO: Tieria Erde, Lockon Stratos and Kobato.
WHAT: Cheering up Kobato, preparing for Lockon's tree climbing adventure.
WHERE: Their house.
WHEN: Day 293, early evening.
Tieria slipped an oven mitt over his hand as the oven counted down its last seconds before his second batch of cookies finished baking. He'd been watching them carefully through the little window, although this time he was positive he'd followed the recipe exactly. He lifted the hot pan off the rack, his chocolate-chip cookies a perfect shade of golden brown. He set them next to the previous batch, in which he had accidentally substituted more flour instead of sugar, giving them a sickly pale color and a consistency and taste similar to chalk. These, however, Tieria was rather proud of. Even if his culinary successes tended to be rather bland, if they came out of the oven without a hitch, he was content.
A successful batch today was especially rare, since there was so much going on beneath that violet hair of his. His close friend and housemate, Neil Dylandy, A.K.A. Lockon Stratos, had announced that he was leaving to explore the gigantic tree that had appeared in Rivelata almost overnight. Not only that, but Lockon had been strangely distant since the holidays, and there had been talk of their self-proclaimed daughter Kobato leaving them. Even Tieria, who was usually the one creating the gloom, had noticed how cold their house had been as of late. Tieria left the cookies on the counter to cool and went about cleaning the dishes he'd used, leaving the bowl he'd used to mix the cookie dough untouched, as Kobato and Lockon seemed to enjoy the batter more than the cookies themselves.
Upon thinking this, he wondered to himself how the smell had not attracted Kobato. She'd been so quiet lately, he never knew whether she was at home or at work. "Kobato?" He called, glancing up at the clock. Lockon would be home from work soon, and the three of them had a few things to discuss before his departure, and he had a feeling it wasn't going to be a pleasant conversation.
