This was bad. Things were not going According to Plan. Light couldn't prove it, but L's sudden change of attitude and his morbid questions made him uneasy. Was it possible that L somehow knew what had happened the day of his death? Even worse, could he now know about Light being Kira?
Either way, Light's brain was working on overload, to say the right thing, to not make a misstep, and to convince L that whatever he thought, Light was his friend. At least in Rivelata, he had no concrete proof. The Death Note didn't work here, hadn't worked since he arrived, so none of the deaths had been because of Kira.
