When Rikku came downstairs, and spotted Gojyo, the smile immediately attached itself to her face. She didn't even think for one moment that it was his gift he refused to tell her. Until, when she was only two feetaway, and he started trying his best to speak Al-Bhed. And for a beginner, he was doing a lot better then some natives when they were angry.
She hadn't got around to teaching him Al-Bhed the night before, by the time everything was done, finally figuring out that the stone was a underdeveloped form of a metal detector, it was going on late. So he had left her half asleep.
"I...How?" Was all she could manage out of her mouth, her eyes swelling up with slightly unshed tears. Once opening the box, and seeing the Rikku!horse, she accepted the box and the boquet, setting them on the nearest table, before wrapping her only good arm around him tightly.
Gojyo smiled at her, slightly embarassed. "Not like I coulda' done this on my own..."
He pointed at the flowers first. "I live with a f- amazin' florist, remember? Shu-chan put t'gether that stuff fer ya'. I can barely remember what they all mean."
Next he hugged her with the opposite arm she was using, massaging her other arm. "Yer cousin taught me th' words. Guess I earned some points there." He was more than a little proud about that interaction; Yuna had really been eager to help him after he'd explained himself.
"And that little gem..." He touched the horse's back for a moment. "I remembered this girl showed up that knew the guys that run The Chemist's and she talked about mechanical stuff, so I asked her about a present an' we decided on that. How th' hell she made it in a day, I'll never know."
"But bonus..." he leaned over and used his free hand to tilt her head up a little, leaning down to kiss her full on the mouth. Two brief kisses then a longer one. He grinned at her from an inch away. "She wants t' meetcha'."
Rikku smiled softly, her cheeks burning red. She didn't think he would go to so much to make her present, but it still touched her. She wasn't used to being treated so... perfectly. It most definitely took her for a loop.
At his kisses, she knew she stood there like she was absolutely stupid, though she responded to the last one. What could she say? She was still very new to this whole relationship with another person. Very new. Though, if she was getting treated like this, she didn't have a problem with it.
"I would love to meet her." She muttered back, initiating her own couple of nervous, naive kisses, pressing against him affectionately. "But seriously baby. This is..." She broke off, trying to figure out how to put how she felt in words. "Absolutely perfect." She finished lamely, hoping the tears that were threatening to fall, ridiculously happy tears, didn't leave streaks down her cheeks.
Gojyo could tell through the kisses - he was way more experienced than her and he'd admitted it - how new she was to the whole thing. He'd never even thought once, in the past, that a girl - or a guy, for that matter - wanted more out of him than sex for a night or two. There were lovers who he didn't think twice about and then, only recently, friends that he kept tabs on at all times. Somehow, Rikku was occupying a middle ground and it had been baffling for the longest time.
But those kisses told him what was happening, albeit subtlely. Unlike everyone else he met, who fell into a category and stayed there, Rikku kept moving along the span. She'd been something of an acquaintance, then what he could basically call a friend, and now she was moving further along towards the 'Lover' end. He hadn't thought the middle ground even existed, let alone watch someone walk that path.
She'd given him a chance to be her boyfriend, given him a chance to...
I didn't think it was possible. So that was why he was allowing it all to unfold slowly.
( ... )
Though the strawberry blonde's thoughts were bouncing back and forth, she kept her calm reserve. Though when his teeth tugged on her lip, she wasn't sure how she was supposed to act. When she saw Wakka and Lulu together, or Yuna and Tidus, she never thought anything this... intimate would be so heart-wrenchingly confusing.
What if she did something wrong? What if she positioned her lips the wrong way, or moved away when she wasn't supposed to. Just the thoughts of all the 'what-ifs' caused her head start to ache. She wasn't quite used to everything not quite making sense to her. And relationships, especially with someone with as much as experience as Gojyo did, confused her.
Her nervousness overpowering her will to blend in is what caused her to pull away from him, her cheeks feeling like they were going to burn off. "I.." She stopped herself from speaking, not sure where she she was trying to go with opening her mouth. "Thanks..."
Of course none of that showed on his face. He was too smooth for that.
He just smirked at her, trying to keep a little distance so she'd settle down. "Maybe after you've played with it fer a bit, you can meet up with Winry. Bet she'll be glad to hear you liked the gift."
[ooc;;Oh yeah. I know~ Though wether Rikku knew, I don't think so?]
Rikku nodded, her emotions bouncing back and forth. She wasn't sure if she did something wrong. She wrapped her arm around his waist yet again, trying to show affection the only way she knew how to.
She leaned up, kissing him briefly once more, pulling away. "I'm sorry I'm new at this." She whispered hesitantly, sighing weakly.
"Nonono, don't apologize!" Gojyo let a hand trail past her cheek as she pulled away, "It's fine. We're... both learning."
He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed as he shifted his weight, straightening his spine a little more. "I'll... be sure to tell Shu-chan how much you liked it too. Maybe you can thank Yuna for me?"
Rikku giggled softly, bouncing her head back and forth. "If you say so." She said hesitantly, scratching the back of her head nervously. She hugged him again, giggling. "And I will totally tell Yunie." She mumbled, looking up at him.
"Now, when is your birthday?" She questioned innocently, giving him the best puppy dog look she could muster, just in case he tried to not tell her.
Gojyo looked extremely shocked by her question. "Why... do you want to know?"
In truth the main reason he made such a big deal out of Rikku's birthday was because she made a big deal out of it, but for Gojyo... turning a year older wasn't really something to celebrate. He'd never celebrated it. Ever. It was a reminder of what he'd gone through year after year as a child - why celebrate that?
Rikku pouted, shrugging. "I'm just curious, babe. Is it a crime to celebrate a boyfriend's birthday?" She questioned, shifting her own weight to her other foot, waiting a reply. "I mean, I know I don't know everything about this stuff, but I'm sure that isn't in the rulebook."
"Thing is... I know you're excited about your birthday, but mine... isn't something I like remembering. Like the rest of my childhood..." He pulled back the bangs on the left side of his face to reveal the twin scars more prominently.
Then he let them fall again, looking downwards and away just a little. "I like to live in the present, Ricchan. It's the only way I know how to live at all."
Minor note: he didn't bite her; he tugged with his lips. Basically his upper lip between hers and his lower lip underneath her lower lip - it usually nudges the gap of the mouth open to french kiss, but Gojyo wasn't trying to do that. ;w;

"E muja oui, Gojyo."
