He wasn't answering their knocks on the door or their questions in the journal. Hakkai shifted back to where he'd been sitting on the bed, wincing at the sensitive state of his back. Long black wings had sprouted just beneath his shoulder blades, and they had to be nearly six feet in span.
He clenched his teeth. How could he have been so stupid? The pumpkin had appeared two days before in Kurama's garden and like an idiot, he checked it out when he noticed the design of a raven carved into it.
The next thing he knew, pumpkin guts were flying everywhere and his back was on fire. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
His good eye glanced at the doorknob, still locked and being turned from the outside with no success.
