They were gone. Almost all of them were gone. There had to be a reason behind it. Morne-Miriel smiled bitterly as he hurried towards the casino where Egwene was waiting. It felt like his time to go was coming closer and closer now. That was how destiny was like, wasn’t it? You didn’t run away from it. So why did he spend his last hours chasing after the heart of a girl who never was and never would be his? And why did he even want her? He was a professional without any kind of emotional weaknesses. There was no way that he could have fallen for such an inexperienced young lady. The black haired man shook his head slightly, still with an ironic smile on his lips. He was a fool until the end it seemed.

The casino was close now, so close he could almost see it. Still carrying both of his twin katanas he hurried his steps, strangely urged to see the woman who had been hunting his thoughts for several months now. That’s when it hit him, a burning pain in his back, so sharp that he fell to his knees. A ricochet, was it? Of course, there were people fighting everywhere, he should have seen it coming. He coughed, one, twice, splattered blood over the ground underneath. The casino was so close, hopefully she would see him. Hopefully he could walk the last metres over there and see her one last time.

Bringing up the last of his energy the wounded pirate got up on his feet again, leaned towards one of his swords and continued walking.

And Egwene had spotted him. She had seen him fall; and at first assumed he just tripped. But she had barely noticed the specks of red shooting from his mouth. A scream choked in the back of her mouth, she rushed out of the door that was barely propped open, tears already swelling against her eyes.

"Morne..." She said loud enough for him to hear, she hoped, as she rushed towards him. She tried to prevent herself from hyperventilating, grabbing one of his arms weakly. "Oh dear lord." She nipped at her bottom lip, fearing for his life. "I'm so sorry, Morne. I'm so sorry." She whispered, trying to help him towards the casino a little quicker. Looking around, she managed a small fireball towards the closest flying snake, leaning her body against his.

"You can't be leaving, Morne. You're not allowed." She said to him, forcing the tears away.
