It was one hell of a birthday present.
The bar was polished and trussed up and ordered and neat in a way it definitely wouldn't be ever again. Renji hadn't done the cleaning and polishing, of course, but he was proud of it all the same. A wall covered in rainbowed liquor bottles reflected the smoky light, tempting, tantalizing, beautiful in their intoxicating way, and he absently turned a blue one so its label faced squarely out. The tables were lined up, chairs tucked quietly underneath them, and the unassuming wooden door at the back of the room stood closed, a small, unassuming black flower painted in the upper right hand corner.
Renji smirked. It was one hell of a birthday present, indeed. In slightly over an hour, he mused, Katou's bar, the bar that had become his, would open at last.
