WHO: Yue Katou (
limboed), Renji (
rukongai_dog) and his new employees (you know who you are, ppl! Tag yourselves, 'kay?)
WHAT: Employer shows employees who owns them.
WHERE: Bar Hades, Market District.
WHEN: Day 144, 3pm.
(
Truth be told, despite the unexpectedness of it all, Rivelata had fulfilled most of his quite-impossible daydreams. )
His hand shifted to make sure his gun was still tucked into the front of his pants; it would never have been moved, but he had been paranoid ever since he got here to this strange, god-awful place. He opened the door to the bar and stuffed his hand in his coat pocket upon entering.
Immediately he started sizing up the people already inside. Two redheads and a blond who seemed like he was in charge. He stood firm in his ground, proud and very much don't-touch-me-I'll-shoot. Physically, Mello wasn't very strong at 5' 7" and 115 lbs., nor was his size very intimidating, but he knew how to carry himself to make it seem like so. He hoped his scars emphasized the "don't touch me" part of his stature, that was the only thing they seemed to be good for.
"I'm here for the bouncer job." he stated shortly, cutting right to the chase.

He got up off his barstool and stood, leaning on one hip, a street kid's intuition to respond to body language that issued a challenge.
"I'm the manager," he said, in the same voice Mello had used, and gave him a long, piercing look before the serious face cracked. A lopsided grin lit up his face, and he laughed an open laugh. "Now cheer the fuck up!"

He'd borrowed it oncee from Renji, when the manager had owed him a favour. He knew who was in charge, he know who was paying him, and he knew Katou had said it would pay well. And with Yuuko now a resident of their house, he'd need that money soon to keep the witch as drunk as she liked to be.
He opened the door and stopped right beside Mello, a good eight inches taller than him.
"I'm here for the bouncer job," he said simply, shortly.

“Brilliant, now we got us two bouncers!” he said, flicking away the burned-down cigarette carelessly. He turned to Renji. “What do ya think, eh? Should we let them fight each other for the job or just save the trouble and give ‘em shifts?”

"I dunno much about the little guy, but I know fer sure if we let Kuro-dude fight in here, he'd do the place damage," Renji quipped. "I say shifts, fer the sake of the rafters."

Then again, should a mafia had taken 16-year-old Mello seriously upon first looking at him? No. It took certain methods of "convincing" to get them to, but by the end of it he had them at his every beck and call.
Kurogane...well, Mello was just irritated by him immediately. He was much taller and he was going for the same job. Great. He didn't feel up to being competitive.
Mello stiffened to keep his temper from rising as Katou and Renji talked about them and looked at them. Most places in America had two bouncers anyway, what was this talk of just one?
Oh. They knew the tall one. Mello rolled his eyes. Fantastic.
He chose not to say anything because he couldn't think of anything to say. Well, everything he did think of would probably get him turned down, so he just kept quiet.

He was prepared to be surprised, at any rate. Frankly, he liked surprises, and the better Mello was, the less likely it was he'd have to go out and look for another bouncer.

Renji's next requirement caught him off guard for a moment. Prove himself? With limits? No. That wasn't how Mello did things. He didn't prove himself to anyone, he just didn't. Plus, what was he supposed to do? Throw his gun in the air and catch it?
Mello was more of a "rise to the occasion" kind of guy; his temper helped that out quite a bit. Right now he felt pretty sedated (a common feeling for him ever since he blew himself up), calm and calculating, not too hurried. Behind his sharpshooter gunman front was a highly intelligent young man who more often than not let his emotions get in the way, so his ability to pull off proof of ass-kick-manship wasn't that great. He'd think about it too much.
"Would it be too much to ask if you just observe me the first night and judge my abilities from there?" he questioned. Well, might as well start figuring something out just in case he received "no" for an answer.

"'Kay, but Kuro does openin', I think," Renji said, looking to Katou for confirmation of his decision. "Ain't takin' openin' night on faith, kid."

Small.
The only time he spoke was to irritatedly correct Renji on his name.
"It's Kurogane."

He looked up at Kurogane, glaring. It wasn't like Mello didn't know what he was doing. And quite honestly, he was irritated by it. Well, at least he knew the big dog's name now.
