Max was exhausted, simply put. Her mind was confused and her whole body ached terribly. Everything still hurt from being rearranged and changed. She vaguely remembered Nagi writing in his journal, and really wasn't happy about it. She didn't need Bruce's opinion when she was so beat up and changed. The only thing that actually kept Max going to her house was the humiliation of not being able to make it under her own power ( ... )

Nagi was keeping a watch out for any approachers, what good that might have done them with him as weak as he was.

"Just to meet." His voice was coming back a little from waiting so long between comments, but it was obviously still hoarse. He looked over at the 'red wheel' Al had managed to procure for them - thank whoever for small miracles. "Is that it?" The single worst possibility would be that that idol was not what they'd gone in for and gotten themselves weakened for.

Slouching against the wall, he closed his eyes and rested his head there, waiting for the man's arrival. "I feel... like when- *cough* the first day." That comment had probably been meant for his own head, but he didn't appear to notice he'd said it out loud.

Al bit his lip gently and kept rolling. Seeing what had happened to the others - how weak it had made them, without even really knowing what it had actually done - he didn't need Max to resent him; he already felt terrible. That he should be one of the only ones to escape, and all on a fluke? Seeing others hurt where he could have been of some use, maybe?

Over and over again, he kept seeing the battle, trying to see things he could have done better, cursing himself for not practicing his alchemy more. If he'd been better, faster, stronger...something, maybe things would have been different.

He knew that was false, somewhere deep down, but his character just wouldn't let it go. That pirate...killed like that. Blood...everywhere... Like the war... And Al hadn't been able to do anything. Again.

He sighed softly. Brother would have known what to do.

When no one had answered, he had slipped around to the back door and "let himself in". Finding no one yet in the quiet, dark, empty house, Batman merely retreated to the shadows for now, waiting for them to arrive.

It took a little longer than usual, given their state and their cargo, but as the four slipped into the house one by one-- Max without her wings, Zero surprisingly human, and all of them likely powerless humans now, Batman couldn't help but be relieved that they were all safe, at least, unlike the unfortunate pirate.

And it seemed they had something. Perhaps the object of the mission? Or just something they'd settled on? Well, either way, it was something from the temple, an idol like Kagari and Kurama had mentioned, and it might be useful. He just wondered grimly to himself whether it was really worth the cost of risking so many lives.

"I'm glad to see you're all alright."

Expression serious, he stepped out of the shadows, quiet as a nightfall, eyes gauging them all.

"Does anyone need medical treatment?"

Max sighed and literally smacked her forehead with her hand. "Nothing you can fix." She muttered peevishly.

She guessed this was what it felt like when people had found the cabin broken into when she and the flock stopped in Colorado. She gestured to the idol. "What Kagari mentioned, all in one piece, thanks to Al's alchemy." She recognized the worth of his abilities. "Nagi found it and whatever when we were fighting Rainbow Carebear."

If only it had been a massive bear ( ... )
