Though the promise of adventuring through new lands was somewhat exciting, GarnetDagger had resolved to stay put. After all, she couldn't afford to get lost in this new land, and Zidane was already coming for her, as far as she new. With him, her chances of finding both Steiner and a way back to Alexandria were far greater.
Oh.... She sighed and hung her head, watching her feet as she awaited Zidane's arrival. I really can't do anything right, can I? No matter how hard she tried, it seemed like everything she worked for kept falling apart in her hands. How long would she have to try before she finally succeeded? Getting back to Alexandria should have been the easiest thing to do ... and she'd even failed at that.
She fumbled nervously with the chain of her pendant, but turned her head at the sight of something all too familiar. Was that a tail? "Zidane...?" She said softly, more to herself than anyone, as she pushed herself through the crowd and toward him. "Zidane?"
Zidane looked wildly around for that familiar voice. There was no mistaking who it belonged to, and it sent a twinge through his chest. He'd planned precisely what he was going to do, what he was going to say, so he didn't freak her out when they finally did meet; after all, she would remember barely anything. But the moment he saw her everything was thrown completely out the window, and before he would even think about it he was pulling her into an embrace.
Plan 'not confuse the hell out of Dagger' was a failure, then. He released her, stepping away and looking a little sheepish. She definitely wasn't the Dagger he remembered after all, even at a glance: her hair was long again. Rather, her cutting it had never even happened.
"Sorry," he said quickly, "I just... Really missed you."
It was him. He really was here, and she wasn't alone. For a moment, she felt hopeful. He could tell her where they were, and help her get back home. She'd be able to talk to her mother and set everything straight, and -- Her hopeful feeling was replaced with complete confusion as Zidane embraced her, and as he pulled away, she couldn't help staring at him. Missed me? It had only been a few days since they'd last seen each other, hadn't it? Though, she couldn't remember how she'd gotten here.
"Do you know what's going on?" She asked him. "Have you seen Steiner? Can you get me back to Alexandria?" So many questions, but was there another way to get answers? She doubted it, and Zidane was the only person she trusted here. That certainly wasn't saying much, though-- he was simply the only one she knew.
Zidane forced back the uncomfortable expression working its way across his face. This was beyond cruel, for her not to know so much of what had taken place. For her not to know him. But all of that... It could wait, if he decided to tell her anything at all. He wasn't sure he had the heart to.
"We're in a city called Rivelata," he began, gesturing to the outskirts of the city by the docks. "and we're stuck here. There's this Queen who says we were chosen by some god to live here. There's people taken from different places and different points in time... And so far, I haven't seen any sign of Rusty or anyone else."
He paused, eying her with an unusual solemness. "I know it's confusing, but the rest of us are just as confused and in the dark as you. We're just trying to find a way out."
Rivelata...? Stuck ... here? Every word he said dealt a devastating blow to her plans. This was- This was- This was terrible. If they were stuck here, how were they going to get back? How was she going to get back to Alexandria in time, before things got worse?
Be strong, she told herself as she clenched her fists at her sides. You can be strong, can't you? You'll get back home.... She averted her gaze toward the horizon and looked sadly upon the waves of the vast sea. She'd never thought that anything like this would happen to her, that she'd wind up in a place like this. ...Suddenly, she recalled something he'd mentioned and looked back at him, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"You said ... from different places and times, is that why you asked me before what I had been doing before I came here?" Briefly, she paused, and suddenly inclined slightly toward him. "What were you doing, Zidane? Before you came here?"
Zidane shook his head helplessly at the dreaded question, unable to meet her intense gaze. Instead, he looked out across the beach. "It's... complicated. Just worry about what's going on here and now." A pause. Dagger was stubborn, he knew, and he doubted that would be enough for her. Especially when she was in full Princess Mode and expected answers immediately.
"I guess for you, I'm from the future. Things that have happened that haven't taken place for you, yet," he relented. "Lots of things. If I told you--"
Something suddenly cut him off, and he narrowed his eyes against the sun. Where he'd been watching the beach were two figures, and even to the untrained eye it was clear the two were fighting. But what caught his attention was that it wasn't just friendly training: they were seriously trying to harm one another. "What the hell are they doing?!"
It was apparent that one of the combatants was using some form of magic and the other probably wasn't; a fairly one sided battle. However, the magic-user appeared to already have blood on his white shirt and pale-navy-blue pants, while the other person was literally fresh off the boat.
From the future.... She nodded, fully prepared to listen to all he had to tell her. She wanted to know everything; wanted to know if she succeeded. Dagger was a little shocked at his question, but quickly looked in the direction that caught his attention. She bit gently on her lower lip as she watched the strangers, and took a step forward, as if pondering how to react to them. True, she didn't know them, but did fighting have to be the answer? Weren't enough people getting hurt?
Zidane barely hesitated; as much as he wanted to see Dagger remained safe, people fighting amongst one another was beyond idiotic. Sure, they probably had their reasons, but they were nothing when people had to focus on getting out of here. They all had common goals.
"Stay here," he instructed, and before she could reply, he turned and hastened towards the figures. As an afterthought, he called back over his shoulder to her, "We can talk more later!"
