Daine was, as always, putting herself to work. After the midnight meeting with Envy, she was putting more and more of herself into her work, forcing her mind to reremember how to keep itself human.
She wouldn't be caught unawares again.
Without Numair's block and her powers running differently, Daine knew it was essential to keep them tuned and in check. Part of her was frightened of shifting, remembering all too well the curious awakening she'd had from the Godking's enslavement. Most of her time was fuzzy, but two things stood out most of all: one, too much of it had been spent in the company of Envy, and two, she hadn't been in her right mind, and that scared her most of all.
So engrossed was Daine in the minds of her animals that she didn't hear the door open and the little bell tinkle.
