Luke had let Ion leave--not exactly happily--when he'd said he met a friend who needed help down at the docks. He'd checked out the guy's little portrait, and he hadn't seemed that dangerous or anything, so Luke had finally given in. Actually, the guy sounded like kind of a nerd the way Ion was, so maybe they'd get along famously.
Luke didn't know. He was so tired of moping at Ion, tired of feeling like everything he tried to do went wrong. Ion was nice, but there was only so much he could hear about Van before even he got bored. Luke was sure of it.
And with Guy gone, he didn't have anyone to talk to.
Which was why when Luke heard the knock on the door, he practically jumped up off his bed, running to pull the door open.
Guy smiled at his friend as the door was pulled open. "Hey there, how've you been lately?" He moved inside, taking a seat on the bed.
"Sorry that I haven't really been around lately. I've just... been busy." And it was true, after all. Traversing the city took time, not to mention there was the unfortunate experience with that seasnake... But that was a story for a different time.
"How've I been?" Luke laughed, punching his friend in the shoulder. "What about you! You disappeared and--"
His face fell suddenly, remembering everything that had happened since Guy had disappeared.
"Van's here," he said, staring down at the inn floor. "And Asch--I'm pretty sure Asch's never going to speak to me again. But other than that things have...been okay, I guess."
Guy laughed as Luke punched his shoulder. Maybe there was nothing wrong after all. "Sorry, about that I-- Luke?" When Luke's face fell, Guy knew he'd been wrong, and he immediately put himself in best friend mode, ready to comfort.
However, he was too shocked by the news he received to think straight for a moment. Dammit, I shoulda just stayed with the group instead of running of like that. Some friend I am...
"Luke? I... don't understand fully. What happened with Asch? Do you know why Van's here? Did he hurt you?"

He'd never been much good at lying to Guy.
