WHO: Itou Kamotarou, Sakamoto Ryouma, Chancellor Nachitah, Balthier Bunansa WHAT: A meeting between the Shinsengumi advisor and the Chancellor ends in vain WHERE: At the castle WHEN: Day 127
"Itou-san! Over here! Over here!" Sakamoto called out from one of the tables, waving his hand wildly. He was grinning from ear to ear. First of all, he was meeting with the Shinsengumi and not getting arrested, that was a very good thing. Second, he might finally be able to atone for selling the terrorists some bombs. Third, his shop was in good hands with his new workers. At least they didn't hang-out too much in the basement, and they were reliable despite their lack of size.
He downed his drink and laughed. "Ready to go meet with the Chancellor or do you want to have a drink first?"
Grimacing slightly as he noticed the unnecessary attention Sakamoto had attracted, he walked toward the man quickly and took his seat. The last thing he needed was for one of the patrons to take an interest in them, but confident that the plan would go well, Itou pushed aside his worries and smiled as he addressed the merchant, "Sakamoto-san."
Watching the man down his last drink, he considered the best way of putting his words without sounding too impatient. Prompted by Sakamoto's question, he answered carefully, "It might be inappropriate for me to reek of alcohol meeting the Chancellor. Perhaps another time, Sakamoto-san?"
"I'll give that a miss today, Sakamoto-san," repeated Itou, in a tone that suggested the end of a topic, his expression also less amicable than seconds before. Upon remembering that he needed the merchant for this meeting, however, he forced a small smile back on to his face.
"Yes, I'm looking forward to meeting with the Chancellor, Sakamoto-san," he paused, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I really appreciate your help."
"No problem!" Sakamoto said in his usual horribly pronounced English. "Anything to keep the Shinsengumi off my ba-" He coughed, then laughed loudly. "Anything to keep the streets safe from crime! It's bad for business, you know?" He paid the bartender and grabbed his hat which was hanging from a coat rack beside the door.
Aware of Sakamoto's cautiousness toward his history of dealing with the Kiheitai, Itou simply smirked and said nothing. His knowledge of the merchant's illegal business transactions would be useful for extortion when necessary. Following the man out of the bar, they set out in the direction of the castle.
Itou was curious of the power possessed by Sakamoto, whether the Chancellor trusted him enough to meet them without a bodyguard; otherwise, he would want to have a better understanding in the security measures taken within the castle.
Faking a cough to capture the merchant's attention, he asked conversationally, "Pardon me for being curious, are the meetings usually held privately between just the Chancellor and the council members?"
"In a windowless room of thick stone, surrounded by guards," Sakamoto said, snapping his fingers. "So I'm sure we'll be pretty safe inside, Itou-sensei!" Pretty safe unless the queen, for some odd reason, decide to capture them then and there. Sakamoto had no reason to think that the queen had anything against Itou-sensei but if so ever she caught on a certain sunglass wearing merchant was the source of the terrorists' bombs... Sakamoto laughed loudly, trying hard to mask his nervousness.
As the two of them arrived by the castle gates, Sakamoto Ryouma announced his name and purpose to the gate guards and waited for them to be let in.
