Zidane had to admit, he couldn't have chosen a better day for exploring if he tried. There was nothing to be done about the too hot weather to which he was so unaccustomed, but the sea air; cawing of gulls floating lazily on the breeze; the gentle creak of wood under his boots on the boardwalk; the near-empty streets in light of the ball he'd decided not to attend; all of it was almost relaxing.

Then he was reminded just where this was, why he was here. The Queen. The idyllic illusion was always interrupted, despite his struggles at optimism. He supposed he had Kuja, and should be grateful he was no longer alone here, but...

He halted. Perhaps it was just homesickness, but there was a girl on a bench nearby who seemed awfully familiar.

And then he was reminded with a jolt why he'd come in the first place.

Sufficiently shocked out of his reverie, he headed over to Himawari, an apologetic smile fixed on his features for tarrying so long. It was quickly replaced when he realised she was cute. "Hey," he said brightly, leaning forwards ( ... )

She smiled brightly as the other approached, giving a wave and a chuckle at his comment.
"Yep! It's such a pretty day, we shouldn't waste any time~!" She chirped as she got to her feet. Glancing around, she raised her hand to her brow to shield the sun from her eyes and furrowed her brow.

"..aah..where to first. Mmm, that way looks nice." She pointed ahead toward an area of shops and other such buildings. It was filled with people bustling about with their daily business. She reached behind her to take his hand in a light grip, then began to lead them into the city.

Zidane allowed himself to be lead along without protest. They'd met all of ten seconds ago and already she was holding his hand? Had to be a record, even for him. He grinned and looked past her long enough to survey the shops they were heading for. He'd been around the shops plenty of times, but he wasn't about to voice that. Whatever made her happy; people around here needed to smile more.

"How're you doing here so far?" he ventured. "I mean, a lot of people are having a hard time getting used to things, but you look like you're taking it all in your stride."

"I suppose when it comes down to it, I don't mind too incredibly much." She mused, putting a finger to her lip and looking up thoughtfully as she read the signs of all the shops. "When I'm here..." She paused halfway through that sentence, deciding not to add that it was better for her loved ones back home. With a shrug she went on.

"It could be worse." She stated with a curt nod, slowing her walk to a stop near a bookshop as she gazed into the glass display case, then finally took her attention off the shops around them to give him a rather curious look.

"Ah...I hope it's not rude to ask this but, what kind of place did you come from?" As she said that, yes, she was looking at his tail. She wondered if everyone else in his world had tails like that. It would be...

"...so cute, like a kitten's." She mused, not bothering to hold in her opinion.

Zidane had a feeling there was more to it than what she was telling him, but he knew when not to press a subject, and instead settled for taking a sudden interest in the shops they passed as he listened. Whatever her reasons for being content with Rivelata, cheerfulness like hers would be impossible to fake.

At her comment, he laughed, waving his tail as if to demonstrate that it was actually real. "I've been getting a lot of questions about it, y'know, even from the locals. At first I was surprised; having a tail's not all that unusual where I come from. Here, I've only seen two other people with a tail - one was from my world." But 'cute' was definitely a new one. He took a mental note of that. "I guess lots of people here haven't seen anything like it before, huh?"

Himawari really did think it was adorable, and wondered if he was hiding cat ears somewhere under all that blonde hair. She leaned foreward and looked at him intently for a moment, then reached up and pat him gently on the head. "Aa~ no kitty ears, though." She simpered as she leaned back.

"I think this place is alot like my home. Where I'm from, people usually don't have tails." She noted, doing a little twirl to show the lack of tail behind her. "Sometimes they'd wear fake ones, but that would be pretty rare. I think real ones are much neater." She gave a curt nod with that, turning to gently press her forehead to the window of the bookstore they'd stopped beside.

"Ne, Zidane-kun. In your world, did you like to read?"

If there was supposed to be some thread of logic in her assumption he had cat ears or why people wearing fake tails, he definitely couldn't see it. Her world sounded extremely strange indeed, and his was probably odd enough by Rivelata's standards. "Nope, just regular ears. But I've talked to a guy with cat ears before - Ranulf, I think his name was."

Her question was answered by the fact he'd already moved on to the next shop along; a bakery, where he'd been lured to by the scent of fresh bread. He wasn't particularly hungry, but it still smelled good. While he was one of the more educated members of Tantalus who had actually taken the time to learn to properly read and write... "For me, books are pretty dull, and they take up too much time. I can't just pick up a book and sit there for hours with it."

He turned back to her, folding his arms behind his head relaxedly. "I like plays better. Watching 'em, performing in 'em. It's more fun than just reading, right?"

Sometimes Himawari just did things that didn't make sense~ It was her way. She blinked as she noticed he'd already walked ahead, but followed along pleasantly. "Saah, well it's different for everyone." She mused with a shrug. "I can only read for a long time if I find a really good book, like something super spooky."

She had no qualms about looking at the bakery instead, being that she was immediatly attracted to scent of freshly baked sweets. She gave a nod in reply to his words.

"Plays are exciting, instead of having to imagine a story, you see it right before you. I bet being in one is enjoyable, but probably a little scary too when in front of an audience."

"Plays are only scary the first few times," Zidane replied, turning and passing the bakery before he was tempted to go inside. He couldn't speak from experience - he'd been in the theatre business for around as long as he could remember, after all - but he knew the less experienced actors always suffered from jitters. "Once you get used to all the people, it's fine. Even if you screw a line up, it's not that hard to cover it up if you just ignore the audience. Act like you know what you're doing and they'll believe it."

He grinned to himself at the memories, glancing only briefly in the windows of the next few shops they passed. Just clothes and similar accessories, nothing interesting. Then the street broke off three ways, so he turned to Himawari. Ladies first, after all. "Which way now, captain?"

"You do alot of acting?" She inquired, fighting the desire to go into the bakery as well by keeping up with him. "You must be very good at it, you sound like you've had alot of experience."

"Aye aye~" She chuckled, then tapped her cheek thoughtfully. She gasped as she remembered. "Ah, I have to find a pet shop, or something like one. I need to find some bird feed."

"Yeah, used to do it for a living," Zidane nodded. "I was part of a theatre troupe until a while ago."

He gave all three paths a once-over: one went around back to the beach, another went towards the housing, and the one straight ahead was a continuation of shops. "Let's keep going this way," he said, motioning for her to follow. "There's probably some kind of pet shop 'round here. You got a bird? I've never heard of people being taken here with their pets before."

"Wow, I've never met anyone with such an interesting backround. That must have been amazing." She crooned.

She nodded at his motioning and followed along. "I suppose Tanpopo came along because we're never separated. He's the only one I can be around and never hurt." She said brightly.

"Guess it would be interesting to some people, but it's how I grew up," he shrugged, scanning the shops on either side of the street. They were all beginning to look the same. As they walked, his eyes did linger on the window of a jeweler's more than was strictly necessary, though.

Then, he stopped so abruptly that Himawari almost bumped into him. Turning around, he echoed in puzzlement, "Only one you can be around and never hurt...? What does that mean?"

"Oh..I...ah.." She simpered, rubbing the back of her head and looking down as she realized her mistake. "Well, you see I'm really...clumsy." She nodded as this lie left her lips. "It tends to cause trouble for people..."

As she spoke, hidden construction workers making repairs to the roof of the shop they were standing before dropped a large metal toolbox. It was heading straight toward Zidane, though he did have plenty of time to spot it and move before it hit him. Himwari's bad luck struck again~

Zidane frowned; he was well-practiced in lying enough to tell when people were lying to him. But maybe he was just being overly suspicious. What reason would she have to lie about something like that--?

His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the woosh of something very large and very heavy from above him. He darted out of the way without even thinking, pulling Himawari with him to safety. There was a crash of metal behind him and he turned around to see the toolbox lying where he'd been standing moments before, its contents scattered across the paving. That... had been almost too close for comfort. In typical Zidane fashion, however, he was more concerned for Himawari. "You okay? You weren't hurt, were you ( ... )
