WHO: Agrias Oaks (northswainbraid) and Tenou Haruka (turbulentspace) WHAT: Agrias shows the new girl around WHERE: The docks, then around town WHEN: Right after Haruka's ship comes in
When the woman had mentioned wearing a musketeer's outfit, Haruka wasn't sure whether or not she should take her seriously. Sure she had mentioned being a knight, but the concept of someone actually dressing that old-fashioned when not in a play was still a little beyond her.
She had already gotten off the boat by the time she'd written in the journal, so all she needed to do was wait for her appointed guide by the docks. It was still a little surreal, and she felt herself become even more nostalgic as she glanced down towards the water splashing below the docks. She didn't doubt that she would see Michiru again.
Fortunately, she was distracted from her depressing train of thought when a nearby girl slipped on the damp wood, and Haruka was just close enough to catch her shoulders to keep her from falling flat on her back. The exchange was short, complete with a light wink from the taller blond, but she paused when she noticed someone standing nearby. It was a woman who fit the description she'd provided in the journal, though she wasn't close enough to recognize her face.
Musketeer's outfit indeed.
After wishing the young girl well, Haruka was sure to blow her a kiss before turning and heading over to the stack of crates and barrels, recognizing the woman's face from the journal. Realizing they hadn't even exchanged names, she stopped in front of her to hold out her hand.
The knight blushed a very faint shade of red as she noticed the other girl's gestures. She had not seen anyone do that, let alone towards her, since she left Ivalice.
"I am Lady Agrias Oaks of the Lionsguard Brigade. Well, I was of it. There is no such knight troupe here. In this land of Rivelata, I am just another lost soldier. Either way, it was a pleasure to meet you, Lady Tenou!" She removed her cap momentarily, bowed, and kissed her hand in return, as chivalry begs.
She had been noticing the other girl staring quizzically at her outfit. Agrias laughed a bit.
"Ah, is my appearance that curious? This is common dress around here. I fear the knight's tunic, boots, and gloves I came in are no longer with me or I would have come in that. I am much more comfortable in skins and armor than I am an outfit such as this."
She returned the cap to her head and began to recite what she knew of the area.
"This is where everyone begins their lives here. A boat and these docks with nothing more to guide you than these magick journals and few silver coins. I recommend obtaining residence and work as soon as you can here. Thankfully, there are plenty of rooms and many opportunities."
Agrias lead herself and Tenou to the beach, walking upright and strong.
"This...This is a favored spot of those seeking friendly competition, training, and unfortunate kidnappings. Does my lady here have any questions or shall we head into town?"
Haruka paused when the other woman actually bowed to kiss her hand. That was new. ...Or really, really old. It wasn't often that Haruka herself ran into other masculine women, especially being from a country like Japan, so she found herself a little floored by that treatment. Especially being called something like 'my lady'...
On the surface however, she simply smiled and shrugged it off. "No questions so far. Nice to see that a beach looks like a beach no matter where you are."
Agrias smiled. For some reason, this lady's mannerisms put her at ease.
"Indeed! Now, if you will pass over the boardwalk, we can enter the main part of town and quite possibly the busiest area - the market district." She continued her strong lead, stopping when she first saw merchant stalls line the streets.
"It truly amazes me at the selection of goods and services this small island has. You can easily find work here and if you cannot, you can just as easily start your own shop or service. There are many wonderful things here, even goods not found in my homeland, such as 'pizza' and 'ramen.' Since we cannot return home for now, many people build and offer things they enjoyed in their homelands. It also shows people like I such wondrous new dishes and goods."
She pointed in the exact opposite direction of the market.
"Down that way back across the boardwalk is the housing area. Most everyone resides there. As long as you find work, rent is not much of a problem to pay."
Agrias turned to Tenou again.
"Are you hungry? We could buy supper if you need it. My treat."
Ramen and pizza weren't offered in her homeland? That didn't sound very fun. More and more it simply sounded like Agrias was simply someone from the past, except her mention of magic threw Haruka off a little. She spoke about it so easily, and Haruka didn't ever remember about knights in Europe using magic, nor had she heard about it ever being called Ivalice.
It really was a completely different world, huh? Outside the solar system... Well, Haruka couldn't really consider her an intruder if they weren't on Earth anymore. She was snapped out of her train of thought by the woman's suggestion, making Haruka smile again.
"Mm? Really? Well when you offer like that, how can I turn you down? You'll have to let me make it up to you by treating you to a date some time."
Blushing again, Agrias scratched her nose, looking away a bit. She was mostly used to younger students at the knight academy asking her out or her two main subordinates, Alicia and Lavian, expressing interest. She herself had only ever escorted the princess though. She managed another smile at last and faced Tenou again.
"You are too kind to me, someone you only just met. I cannot refuse such kindness! Now, if you will follow me, the Crimson Dragon Inn has very filling, suitable meals. There are pirates lodging there, but they do not bother people unless bothered themselves. It is not far from here."
She bowed and made her way towards the Inn, keeping the door open for Tenou.
The blush didn't escape Haruka, but she had the decency not to chuckle. Even a masculine woman like Agrias wasn't impervious to flirtation, it seemed. Still, Haruka knew when to ease off, especially with someone so straight-laced. The last thing she wanted to do was offend her guide.
"Ah, you say that, but you're the one showing me around and treating me to dinner." ...Pirates? Well wasn't that interesting. She wondered just how successful a pirate would be in a place like this where they couldn't leave.
As the door was held open for her, Haruka rubbed at the back of her neck with a nod. "Thank you."
Agrias stopped, short of words for once in her life. She stood and thought for a minute, laughing again. "Touche! You got me, my lady!"
She found a table in back where few were bound to bother the two and ordered a simple steak and a glass of wine. "Whatever you would like is fine. Please, do not hold back for my sake. Money is not an issue." She produced a small brown bag from her shirt, paying their waiter a few small cooper colored coins.
"The last bits of advice I have are to stay out of the jungle and to stay away from the castle. Otherwise, the island is very safe, with only the occasional were-creature showing up." her expression grew melancholy at the last part of that, her voice lowering.
Were-creature? It seemed like Haruka would need to do some serious research on this damn island while she was stuck here. The least she could do was be well-informed should any of her allies show up. She only hoped that the princess didn't appear. It would be harder to protect her in a completely different world...
Playing it safe, the blond ordered the same thing as Agrias, draping an arm back over the chair behind her as her expression became more serious. "By any chance, have you seen a woman named Michiru? She's impossible to miss. Her hair is the color of seaweed."
Her mind went though its list of people she had met. There had been people of many unusual hair and eye colors, amongst other things, but neither a seaweed color or the name Michiru rung any bells. Sadly, she shook her head.
"Unfortunately, such a woman has not come across me or anyone I know. However, if she does, I will inform you right away." she looked down at he rplate, a bit concerned.
She tried to change the subject.
"Lady Tenou, where dost thou hail from? It is not a place that knows of Ivalice. Please, tell me of your homeland!"
With a sigh, Haruka was quiet as their dinner was served, then picked up her glass of wine to tip at. This dinner was more suiting Michiru's style than anything... Though, perhaps not the atmosphere.
"Just Haruka is fine, really." Straightening up, the glass was set down so she could begin cutting up her meal. "I'm not sure what to tell you about that you haven't already experienced here. We have pizza and ramen. Hm... You know about racing? Motocross? Or maybe car racing?
