Kurogane wasn't very good at sleeping soundly when the girl who bore the soul of the princess he was bound to protect was missing.

He felt Fay's movement, the shifting of the hair on his scalp, and opened his eyes. He'd been awake. His red gaze was flat and tired as he looked at the vampire beside him.

What do you want, he managed to think, but not say.

Fay blinked in surprise (more out of seeing the dead look in Kurogane's eyes rather than the fact the man had been awake). He quickly masked it with a bright grin and mussed Kurogane's hair. "Ohayo, Kuro-min ♥"

Kurogane hit Fay's hand away with a 'che' and rolled over, back to the little blond. It felt like he didn't have time for the vampire's games, although in reality he had all the time in the world.

He felt okay, really, just strange, and vaguely like he owed it to the Tomoyo-hime he had pledged his life to to find the one who had been here.

Fay recoiled his hand, laying it under his head while a slight crease formed on his forehead. He scanned Kurogane's posture for a moment. He was stiff, the man really wasn't in the mood. So, there would be limits this time, ones that Fay would be careful not to cross.

"Is Kuro-sama still tired?" Fay dropped the cheerful tone from his voice for a more serious - but not pressing - one.

"Hnn."

A noncommittal response. So Fay understood his boundaries today - really, as much as the vampire acted like an idiot, he was a smart man.

"I'm fine," he grumbled.

A faint smile tugged on Fay lips, of course you are. Sighing, Fay rolled onto his back, and folded his hands behind his head.

"We can keep looking, you know." There was a hopeful edge to Fay's voice that he didn't personally feel. He'd been here before, hoping one day he would just bump into his Kurogane on Market Way. That hope had long since died.

By now, Kurogane was pretty sure it wouldn't help.

He rolled back over to face Fay again, and nearly said the same words again.

"It's fine."

Fay wanted to reassure him, but couldn't think of a way to do it in which he wouldn't sound patronizing. There was nothing he could say that wouldn't have already crossed Kurogane's mind.

He glanced sideward at the ninja a moment, his eye a shade away from scrutinizing Kurogane, as if checking the man really was fine about this. He looked away, back to the ceiling, his own face betraying nothing of what he'd seen. "Should we tell Sakura-chan?"

"Che. Idiot," Kurogane mumbled, eyes still flat. "'Course we should, she's her friend. She has to know."

He blinked slowly. That Fay wasn't being obnoxious was a great relief to him. He was okay, but that was the best it got. He'd sworn to protect Tomoyo, and in that, he'd failed - but it hadn't been this Tomoyo.

Still, he felt like he had two options:

1. Get up, try to fight past it and make himself uncomfortable, or
2. Sleep it off, Fay tucked under his arm.

She had probably already figured it out, or long since arrived at the same conclusion they had. After all, she had lost Syaoran-kun the same way. Fay cast his mind back to how she had been knowing that her friends were alongside her; happy, secure, and then to how her eyes had welled with tears at any mentioning of the boy's name, how she'd tried to hide it. And now she had lost another friend.

Sakura-chan was a fighter, strong-willed and brave, if he didn't know her as well as he did, if he didn't know these things, he would be having second thoughts about telling her anything for fear of breaking her.

"That won't be easy." Fay exhaled and sat up-right, resigning himself to delivering the unpleasant news. Content to leave Kurogane to deal with his loss in his own way, for now.
